"I believe in a long prolonged derangement of the senses to attain the unknown... Although I live in the subconscious, our pale reason hides the infinite from us."

Acclaimed and controversial director Oliver Stone has yet again tackled heavy subject matter and trodden on dangerous ground with this rock biopic. The Doors is a film that takes a look at the band of the same name and th... read more

"Ray Manzarek turned down Stone's many requests to help in the movie. Manzarek has since said that the movie is a horrible account of the history of the band." --FROM Internet Movie Database trivia

" Oliver Stone’s take on the life of former The Doors frontman played by Jim Morrison, played by Val Kilmer, and while the film is called The Doors, is more focused on the mythological version of Morrison. With taking issues with this version of Jim Morrison, including members of the band, they do agree on one thing.... Val Kilmer is Jim Morrison. Released by Tri-Star Pictures on March 1, 1991, The Doors grossed $34 million worldwide against its $32 million production budget and received mix"

“On his first lesser outing as director, Oliver Stone's disjointed biographical music film centres on the rise and fall of The Doors, one of the more successful genre-bursting rock bands of the 1960s, but in actuality targets their larger-than-life frontman, Jim Morrison, and therein lies the first of many missteps in the attempt to maximise on such a wealth of material. An opportunity wasted, in my opinion, whereby subtlety falls victim to the pursuit of pretentious self-indulgence and bombastic flair tailored for the MTV generation. Stylistically staid and historically inaccurate, Jim Morrison's early life is barely explored, with Val Kilmer's showy, disconnected performance failing to capture any component of his true personality. Instead of the sensitive poet he probably was, Jim Morris” read more

"Re-watch - Dec. 8th December 8, 2018, would have been Jim's 75th birthday so I figured I would revisit The Doors in his honor. Kilmer really disappears into character as Morrison and comes as close as possible to resurrecting Jim. It's great. The movie does a great job of capturing the energy of The Doors and the fact they were often kind of a circus, not to mention a trainwreck whenever Jim went off the rails. Morrison could be an asshole, but also charming, and that's all present. My proble"
