" Based on the novel “Eaters of the Dead” by Michael Crichton, A Muslim ambassador exiled from his homeland, Ahmad ibn Fadlan finds himself in the company of Vikings. While the behavior of the Norsemen initially offends ibn Fadlan, the more cultured outsider grows to respect the tough, if uncouth, warriors. During their travels together, ibn Fadlan and the Vikings get word of an evil presence closing in, and they must fight the frightening and formidable force, which was previously thoug"
" Hulu- 1hr. 43min. First Viewing The 13th Warrior is just a complete slog. A story that should be a fun, swashbuckling throwback is rendered a lifeless bore by an anemic script and flat direction. There's really not much to say about this one. There was rarely a moment that went by that I didn't feel guilty for not turning it off and watching something with, at the bare minimum, a pulse. "First viewing - June 11th Sigh. This movie. I mean, it's fine I guess but I couldn't get too excited about it. Kinda odd having Antonio Banderas playing an Arab, but hey at least it's not a White dude. I was entertained, but only passively, and I can't think of much worth discussing about it."

"John McTiernan Replacement: Michael Crichton (Crichton took over for reshoots after McTiernan's first cut tested poorly, but McTiernan still maintained credit)"
“A decent adaptation of a fantastic retelling of the Beowulf myth (by Michael Crichton) that opts for realism instead of fantasy and has a nice underlying theme about finding beauty and honor in other's cultures. Though hobbled by the odd casting choice for the lead and a short running time that stunts some of the character development early on it mostly pays off with the wonderful parallels, rousing music, and a refreshingly restrained approach that eschews the standard Hollywood sensationalism.” read more
