I wasn’t sure what to expect from this movie but since it won 6 Academy awards (including the one for Best Picture) and since it was also included in the list ‘1001 movies you must see before you die’, I thought I should check it out. Well, to be honest, I really had a hard time to care about the damned thing after all. Indeed, even though the beginning scenes were supposed to be sweet and g... read more

Description: Melodrama about a stalwart British matriarch during World War II, trying to cope with her family's involvement in the fighting, and the effect of the war on everyday life. A moving ... Full Descriptiondrama about a middle-class English family learning to cope with war, told in a series of dramatic vignettes. The family, headed by the lovely and gracious matriarch, endures the departure of the father for the beaches at Dunkirk, the discovery of a wounded Nazi pilot, the death of the daughter-in-law in an air raid, and the entry of the son into the Royal Air Force. The scenes culminate in a morale-boosting final speech that ... (more)

r04n1ez's 2020 movie diary (284 movies items)

"Watched: January 30, 2020. Director: William Wyler Starring: Greer Garson as Mrs. Miniver Walter Pidgeon as Clem Miniver Teresa Wright as Carol Beldon Dame May Whitty as Lady Beldon Richard Ney as Vin Miniver I found the film's story rather insipid. Probably because it was pure war propaganda and it felt really dated. I did not get the flower storyline either: I just didn't get the meaning of it. I must admit Greer Garson's performance was the highlight of this film. The sets looked "

The Good & The Bad - Movies Watched In 2017 (472 movies items)

"Awful propoganda movie aimed at the American market during WWII about a family living in a village somewhere in England when war breaks out. How it managed to win several Academy Awards I really don't know as it is vastly overrated. It comes across as very dated and way too slow paced for most viewers. I almost fell asleep during the first hour, which was the most boring. The sets are completely inaccurate and even the first scene shows a double decker bus which wasn't even British. Even the ins"
