A method film about being method, a film about a photographer for Life, a film about life. It's difficult to like this film. I am a huge fan of Corbijn's work; yet I must face the fact that this is his least successful picture. Pattinson is awkward, uninteresting and at no point do I care about his struggles. Loses time in name dropping and rude casting with lookalikes of Elia Kazan, Pier Angeli, Julie Harris, etc. The esential, wich is Pattinson accompanying Jimmy Dean in a singular rediscovery of its roots trip, lacks of intensity.

"Un grande potenziale inespresso. Fotografato magnificamente (of course) e ricostruito con cura, il film resta però freddo e lontano con due attori protagonisti non azzeccati (comunque meglio DeHaan, alle prese con una montagna da scalare, di Pattinson)."
