A good movie

A movie directed by James Gray and starring Brad Pitt did sound really promising and, on top of that, I always had a weak spot for movies dealing with outer space so I was definitely eager to check the damned thing. Well, even though this movie had been fairly well received, as usual with James Gray’s movies, even though I did admire the work done, I can’t say I was really blown away though. T... read more

Good move, good James Gray (his 'Z' movie, was so underrated) in this genre of pompous films. Pitt, Lee Jones and brief Donald Sutherland, are humanly confrotned with long trips and logers stays.

Mustanaamio7's Movie Diary 2023 (58 movies items)

"22.2. 2023 "Ad Astra" tells about an astronaut who is sent to space to find his father. During his journey the confused but determined main character learns that he knows very little about everything that's been happening around him. "Ad Astra" feels like kind of a film that Stanley Kubrick could have made if he would have been a mainstream director. It is a very basic science fiction film with only a few action scenes and a plot that doesn't surprise anyone. "

"First viewing - Jan. 30th I remember seeing generally positive feedback on Ad Astra, so I added it to my HBO Max list thinking I'd get around to it later. Then I noticed it was leaving at the end of the month, so I figured I'd try to catch it before it left. It's a solid sci-fi flick, with an engaging if somewhat predictable plot. Pitt gives a strong performance, but that's not unusual. The space sequences are very well-rendered and thus felt mostly believable (I'm not so sure that Mars has the"

The timing for making this movie was also rather unfortunate as there had been recently so many similar movies released such as ‘Gravity’, ‘Interstellar’, ‘The Martian’ and ‘First Man’. A New Decade! A New Year! Movies Watched In 2020 (641 movies items)

"When a mysterious power surge phenomenon from Neptune menaces to destroy life on planet Earth, astronaut Roy McBride undertakes a mission across the immensity of space and its many perils to uncover the truth about a lost expedition that decades before boldly faced emptiness and silence in search of the unknown. This sci-fi movie whilst it was OK to a certain degree is full of padding to make it run for 2 hours. The story without all of that nonsense could have been told in less than an hour. I"
