The main reason why 8 Mile was a delight to watch was because of the cast. They weren't perfect in any way and that's why I enjoyed watching them. Like any other pop-star, Eminem tried to be an actor at some point but, even though most of this movies turn out to be usually pretty terrible (see ‘Crossroads’, ‘Glitter’, ‘Burlesque’, ‘The Bodyguard’ or ‘Get Rich or Die Tryin'), this movie turned out to be actually pretty good. I was under the impression that 8 Mile was a fictionalised account of Eminem's rise to fame. The setting is Detroit in 1995. The city is divided by 8 Mile, a road that splits the town in half along racial lines. A young white rapper, Jimmy "B-Rabbit" Smith Jr. summons strength within himself to cross over these arbitrary boundaries to fulfill his dream of success in hip hop.
