Somewhere in Time - Iron Maiden
The best, most bombastic and crazy album Iron Maiden has ever made. Every song here is a timeless classic in its own good. I remember listening to this through for the first time and the during the middle part of the fourth track I was already convinced that this was the one.
No weak tracks, not even weak moments. Solid as a rock.

In the Rectory of the Bizarre Reverend - Reverend Bizarre
This thing pretty much revived traditional doom metal as we know it. They even released 2CD special edition with an hour worth of new stuff and it was just as tasty and epic as ever. So damn good.
Darth Brutus's rating:
The Crimson Idol - W.A.S.P.
WASP was already one of my favourite bands of all time, but when I heard this for the first time, it just blew every other album away at an instant. The Crimson Idol is crowning achievement of classic heavy metal and concept albums, the story itself has nice symbolism and details like crazy, but the music itself just grabs you by the balls and never lets go.
Darth Brutus's rating:
No More Color - Coroner
The crowning achievement of technical thrash metal. To this date there has never been anything like it, Vektor comes close but not quite as polished and genius.
Darth Brutus's rating:
Painkiller - Judas Priest
No-brainer. One of the greatest albums ever regardless of any genre. This thing will kick your ass like a crazed lunatic on crack, but in the best way possible.
Darth Brutus's rating:
The Headless Children - W.A.S.P.
Blackie Lawless decided to leave the stupid glam stuff and start making some serious music here, and the result is still one of the best things ever made. It's just so enjoyable to listen to, no weak tracks and even the only cover song here is nearly as stellar as the original.
Darth Brutus's rating:
City - Strapping Young Lad
A combination of pure madness, angst and technical marvel by young Devin Townsend before he settled down and stopped eating magic mushrooms. There has never been anything like Strapping Young Lad and most likely never will.
Darth Brutus's rating:
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son - Iron Maiden
Maiden at their most proggiest. If it wasn't for a song like "Can I Play with Madness" this would also be the best.
Darth Brutus's rating:
Heaven and Hell - Black Sabbath
This is where Sabbath hit their peak. No weak songs, not even weak moments or melodies. The production by Martin Birch is rock solid and of course Dio is the man.
Darth Brutus's rating:
Idolatry - Devastation
This is one nasty ballsy thrash metal record, one of the heaviest and most crushing metal albums ever. I just love it.
Too bad this baby came so late, otherwise it would have most like been a huge hit within the genre at least.

Darth Brutus's rating:
Rust in Peace - Megadeth
Another no-brainer. If you have never heard songs like "Tornado of Souls" or "Hangar 18", then God help you.
Darth Brutus's rating:
Abigail - King Diamond
A masterpiece of metal. If it wasn't for the weak production, this would have been much, much higher on my list.
Darth Brutus's rating:
By Inheritance - Artillery
Obscure little melodic thrash gem, that has gained some serious cult status in the 2000's. Other than a one stupid cover song, this is all world class and highly recommended.
Darth Brutus's rating:
Master of Puppets - Metallica
Yet another no-brainer. Everyone should listen to this albums at least once in their lifetime.
Darth Brutus's rating:
Mental Funeral - Autopsy
The absolute horror, madness and forbidden pleasures incarnate. Some call this the best death metal record of all time for a reason.
Darth Brutus's rating:
Powerslave - Iron Maiden
For me, this is the very first masterpiece Iron Maiden ever did. It's all fine and dandy, but it got even better from here.
Darth Brutus's rating:
Them - King Diamond
Them is up there with Abigail, if not at times even better. The weak production and thin guitar sound plague this album like crazy, but the songwriting and the performance is just as great as ever.
Darth Brutus's rating:
Heart of a Killer - Winters Bane
If you ever wonder why Tim Owens made it into Judas Priest, just listen to this baby here. It's awesome as hell, but also very underrated and obscure. Think about Painkiller-era Judas Priest making King Diamond -like horror concept album. It doesn't get much better than this.
Darth Brutus's rating:
Transcendence - Crimson Glory
This is where Crimson Glory truly perfected their progressive approach to metal music. To accompany this, they decided to collaborate with the professionals of Morrisound Studio to create one of the best sounding metal records of the era.
Darth Brutus's rating:
Love You to Pieces - Lizzy Borden
On paper this should be very basic and boring metal record, but behold! It's one of the best traditional metal records of all time. Lizzy really knew what they were doing here, too bad they could never match it no matter how many killer albums they would make.
Darth Brutus's rating:
The Privilege of Power - Riot
Kinda like Thundersteel with more ambitious themes, like media criticism and political stuff. They even made some nice jazz song and it's 100% great fun to listen to. Originally Thunersteel was my favourite from them, but this albums has grown on me.
Darth Brutus's rating:
Thundersteel - Riot
With Thundersteel Riot pretty much re-invented themselves. This is more like modern speed metal fun with attitude and killer riffs, and when I call this "fun", I mean really really REALLY fun.
Darth Brutus's rating:
Lionheart - Saxon
Lionheart came totally out of nowhere back in the early 2000's and blew our minds. Back then Saxon was mainly known for their early 80's classic albums and even though they were going strong, we didn't take notice until this one.
Darth Brutus's rating:
Headless Cross - Black Sabbath
Alongside Dio-era Sabbath and Paranoid, this is the one of the best things they ever did. It's a thing of beauty, if you can ever call metal music something like that. When Death Calls is the single best ever Black Sabbath song in my opinion.
Darth Brutus's rating:
Too Late For Living - Saint
I remember having so much fun with this one cheesy late 80's metal album. Not until weeks worth of partying and headbanging did I realize that it's actually christian metal.
