`Painkiller` is a milestone album for a seminal band, albeit one that has endured recurring criticism in the 20+ years since it`s release, much of it warranted. Firstly, this is a frequently cheesy album, one scan of the liner notes showing that it's not above shooting for the lowest common denominator lyrically, the `lightning in the dark/with a burning heart ` couplet being an obvious example; t... read more

Painkiller is the twelfth studio album by British heavy metal band Judas Priest, released in September 1990. It is the last Judas Priest album to feature lead singer Rob Halford until his return for the 2005 album Angel of Retribution and the first to feature drummer Scott Travis.

The man who wanted to be Joan Baez (14 music items)

" The Metal Decade is gone, on September 1990 the Painkiller see the light...after the ridicolus subminal messages trial of Stained Class era songs. Younger people than me considers Painkiller a milestone, I think is a good album, Tounch of Evil song overall, but I think they got harder and heavy not to loose the wave they created. At the end of a sold out tour Rob Halford left the band, in May 1992, six years later Rob revealed his homosexuality : All I want to do in my life is to be like Joan"

Top 11 Metal Albums of the 1990s (11 music items)

" The gold-certified 'Painkiller' found Priest at a crossroads: it was the first album with current drummer Scott Travis, and the last with Rob Halford before he jumped ship to create Fight. It's also one of the all-time greatest comebacks in metal. After years of treading water, Priest hired veteran producer Chris Tsangarides and returned with a ferocious, dark and disturbing effort highlighted by the brutal guitar assault of Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing."
