My 251 All-time Favorite Films
While I enjoy a good list poll as much as the next person, I don't lend them too much merit; indeed, I take them with the proverbial grain of salt, especially when they concern the 'Greatest films of all time'. Lists such as these are, for the most part, more indicative of what is fashionable at the time than standing the test of time. Then there's the problem of who's actually voting to take into consideration, as well as just how many movies they have actually seen.
Their are extremely few instant classics, no matter how often that term might be used these days. The greatest of films will stand the test of time; the trendy hits will gradually slip away. Such movies as The Dark Knight, Inception, Kick Ass or Fight Club, which have been at, or near, the top of such lists these last few years might be good examples; chances are, as time passes, they will slip in the ranking of general consensus - some even completely out of the top 300 or so.
As for the lists, and I've seen countless over the years, I've found AMC's
Filmsite to have one of the truest, or most honest, though they list them alphabetically rather than ranked.
Here I chose to simply list my own 'personal favorites', those films which I love more than any others and enjoy watching time and again.
250 might seem a rather large number to some but probably won't to more die-hard movie fans. It stands to reason that the more movies you watch, the more personal favorites will accumulate. Among those listed here are, without a doubt, some of the greatest of all time; there are, as well, others that some (or many) will find forgettable or even bad, depending on their own personal tastes. There are even those which I, myself, will admit to being cheesy or even weak efforts but they all have something about them which I love or, at the very least, they recall for me a memorable time from my past.
I believe that I made this list more for myself than anything but if you're taking a look it will certainly give a bit of insight into my tastes if you're curious. If you don't find your own favorites here it doesn't meant that I didn't like them, just that I don't love them...or quite possibly that I haven't seen them yet. ;P
