Tago Mago - Can
20.1.
4 out of 5 is just about right. This is intense and raw experimental krautrock, I could imagine Sid Vicious and other punk folk really loving this one, especially all the later post-punkers. That said, I also think that over 70 minutes of this is quite an overreach.

I feel disappointed. This was jazz rock alright, but it didn't give me anything I haven't heard before.

Madre en años luz - Spinetta Jade

I don't think it's bad. They clearly tried to replicate what Genesis did, that is move smoothly from prog to more pop oriented music, and I think it worked ok for them. There just isn't any big memorable hit song here.

I think this is Zappa's finest after Hot Rats and Waka Jawaka.

Get Up with It - Miles Davis
19.1.
One of the apex albums of the avant garde jazz movement. According to some sources, around this time Miles was so sick he could barely walk or perform anymore. It's probably the reason why he decided to have few years break.

Now this is more like it. I just love avant-garde jazz more than the normal one. This has the best of the both worlds.

Mingus Ah Um - Charles Mingus

Charles Mingus had this very peculiar sense of rhythm that really fascinates me. Here especially it is very noticeable.

This is where they left the psychedelics and started going more jazz rock. I like their approach, this is a great fun to listen to.

They don't praise this album for nothing. The least creative part of this album is the name. The music is fabulously out there and flows perfectly. I'm not too fond of all the interludes, though.

This I think is where The Soft Machine reigns supreme over Caravan: they take things to the deep end and not hold back.

For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night - Caravan

Another one of Canterbury classics. I don't think Caravan ever scored a masterpiece, just bunch of really damn good albums with minor flaws.

A very fun jazz album. But you know, listening to this makes me want to go for another one of Miles Davis's classics, something that goes beyond just jazz.

This is more In a Silent Way and Kind of Blue than Bitches Brew. That is more conventional. I don't think it's quite up there with the best of Miles.

Koln Concert - Keith Jarrett
17.1.
One of the biggest selling and most beloved jazz records of all time. They say Jarrett accidentally got a worn out and all around shitty old piano and had to go more physical to get it sound right. Maybe that's the magic behind this album: it's very subtle and intense at the same time, and sounds great.

This is stylistically pretty close to Bitches Brew. The cover art is brilliant.

The World Of Genius Hans - Moving Gelatine Plates
16.1.
This is peak Canterbury, or at least the French side of the genre. Moving Gelatine Plates dare to be different and do funny stuff. They also understood the value of visuals, since the striking cover art usually is the thing that attracts most people to get this.
