Soft Spot - Honningbarna
15.6.

I don't care what kind of metalcore, svencore or noise rock they call this shit, but it bangs no cap. This is the kind of intense and raw new stuff I'm actually looking for: something creative to surprise me.

This album was marketed as a return to from, but I disagree. The first half is very weak and the overall style more acoustic than the old classics. I think the longer it goes the better it gets, and the last song is actually brilliant. I doubt this was by accident.

Brat - Charli XCX
15.6.

Pretty good synthpop. Thumbs up from me.

The New Sound - Geordie Greep
15.6.

Nice try, Geordie boy. You took these several music genres and just edited them together, not just influences or ideas, but whole genres. That's very lazy, not creative. But it was a nice try, so I'll give you that much.
Darth Brutus's rating:
People who added this item 3 Average listal rating (1 ratings) 8 IMDB Rating 0
Imaginal Disk - Magdalena Bay
15.8.

Killer art pop and neo psychedelia. There should be more albums like this. There's plenty of plastic sound, but not too much. The bass sounds deliciously organic.

Only Dust Remains - Backxwash
15.6.

This synth-hiphop didn't do anything for me.
Darth Brutus's rating:
People who added this item 1 Average listal rating (1 ratings) 7 IMDB Rating 0
Dead Channel Sky - clipping.
15.6.

This is some great synth-based hiphop. I surprisingly enjoyed it very much. The use of rhythm was very creative and stood out.

Pirouette - Model/Actriz
15.6.

I have no memory of this album at all. Then it must be very dull.
Darth Brutus's rating:
People who added this item 1 Average listal rating (1 ratings) 7 IMDB Rating 0
Luminescent Creatures - Ichiko Aoba
15.6.

Minimalist Japanese pop. I like it.

I Don't Want To See You In Heaven - The Callous Daoboys
14.6.

Metalcore mixed with nu metal. This is just what I want from modern metal: use the damn rhythm and whatever new tools you got to create something else than the usual shit.
Darth Brutus's rating:
People who added this item 0 Average listal rating (0 ratings) 0 IMDB Rating 0
Cancionera - Natalia Lafourcade
14.6.

Nice Mexican folk music. That lady can sing, my god.
Darth Brutus's rating:

Revengeseekerz - Jane Remover
14.6.

You can't tell me I didn't give a fair try or get outside my comfort zone. This is great on paper, since there's a lot of influences and different genres creatively mixed here. But then again, I would much rather have something I can just pick up and enjoy instead of needing to read some special description or philosophy to find any enjoyment out of music. Like maybe you just like something and then find out later it's somehow special or smart.

In many ways this album has a lot of things I really hate in modern music, like the overuse of autotune, too much reliance on boom bass, lyrics you can't understand and shit. I know many people can't enjoy grindcore or other extreme metal genres, so I guess this is the same for me. This sounds too lifeless and plastic for my ears, I need more organic human elements.

14.6.

Fuck I hate these hipster metal bands that just play the usual blast beats and scream, but then they try to act cool with these standout cover arts and some minor tweaks here and there. It's mostly just the same shit again, no creativity. You guys just can't seem to be able to step out of this stupid box.

GOLLIWOG - Billy Woods
14.6.

Well it's brand new bass-heavy conscious hiphop album. Sorry, I didn't like it but at least I gave it a try.

La Fenice - Keith Jarrett
14.6.

I don't know about you, but I was eagerly waiting for this album to end, so I cold finally move to something else entirely.
Darth Brutus's rating:

The Well-Tempered Clavier Book I - Keith Jarrett, J.S. Bach
14.6.

Again, more baroque. This is brilliant, best of the both worlds.

Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach - Keith Jarrett

This kind of music is where Jarrett shines: baroque piano music.
Darth Brutus's rating:
People who added this item 0 Average listal rating (0 ratings) 0 IMDB Rating 0
The Old Country (More From The Deer Head Inn)... - Keith Jarrett, Gary Peacock, Paul Motian
13.6.

Standard jazz, very old school.
Darth Brutus's rating:

Solo Piano Concerts: 1970s - Keith Jarrett
13.6.

Out of all of them, this is the best. Jarrett peaked in the 70's. At times you think you're listening to some Chopin piece, but it's actually just Jarret improvising something out of his mind. That's insane.

Solo Piano Concerts: 2010s - Keith Jarrett

Oh boy, after I'm done with these I'm going to have to grab a good cold beer. It's going to take some time until I'm there.
Darth Brutus's rating:

Solo Piano Concerts: 2020s - Keith Jarrett
8.6.

This is a very cool collection of live recordings. And by that I mean that it's not necessarily one song per track, but whole concerts, and the duration of this beast is roughly 4 hours. And there will be more collections like this in the listening for the next few days. This is Sparta!
Darth Brutus's rating:
7.6.

I think this is their best, or among the best very least. There's not enough technical thrash metal in this world. This stuff is the only really interesting thing in the whole subgenre, everything else is mostly just generic and boring.
Darth Brutus's rating:
People who added this item 3 Average listal rating (3 ratings) 7 IMDB Rating 0
The Principle of Doubt - Mekong Delta
7.6.

There are cool ideas here, like all the technicality that Germans tend to do so well, but the overall quality isn't quite there.
Darth Brutus's rating:
People who added this item 1 Average listal rating (1 ratings) 6 IMDB Rating 0
Salve - Frank Gambale
7.6.

It's the usual, plus I had some nice live recordings from the late 80's that sounded good. Now I'm done with Gambale. Oh, boy.
Darth Brutus's rating:
People who added this item 1 Average listal rating (1 ratings) 4 IMDB Rating 0
Frank Gambale Soulmine - Frank Gambale
7.6.

This is some unofficial Russian release or something like that, so don't expect this to blow your socks.
Darth Brutus's rating:
People who added this item 5 Average listal rating (3 ratings) 7.7 IMDB Rating 0
The Music of Erich Zann - Mekong Delta
7.6.

I used to love this thing, but it just sounds meh to me now.
Darth Brutus's rating:

Natural Selection - Frank Gambale
7.6.

Pretty meh.
Darth Brutus's rating:

Spirit Fall - John Patitucci
7.6.

Phew, I feel like I won't be listening to Patitucci ever again. This is it, I'm done.
Darth Brutus's rating:

One more, baby, one more!
Darth Brutus's rating:
People who added this item 1 Average listal rating (1 ratings) 6 IMDB Rating 0
A Present for the Future - Frank Gambale
7.6.

This is where Gambale started slipping. I don't know if he just tried to progress from his usual style and go new places.
Darth Brutus's rating:
People who added this item 1 Average listal rating (1 ratings) 8 IMDB Rating 0
Bon Voyage - Maurizio Colonna, Frank Gambale
7.6.

This duo is still cool.
Darth Brutus's rating:
People who added this item 1 Average listal rating (1 ratings) 5 IMDB Rating 0
Live in Las Vegas - Victor Feldman, John Patitucci, Trevor Feldman
7.6.

The Chopin jazz trio is back, and it's... something.
Darth Brutus's rating:
People who added this item 1 Average listal rating (1 ratings) 9 IMDB Rating 0
Natural High - Frank Gambale
6.6.

Gambale with more latino style. For some reason I really enjoyed this one a lot. The songs feel very long, though.
Darth Brutus's rating:
People who added this item 1 Average listal rating (1 ratings) 5 IMDB Rating 0
Beams - John Patitucci, Dan Costa, Paulinho Vicente
6.6.

Boring and almost very funny jazz from you know who.
Darth Brutus's rating:
People who added this item 1 Average listal rating (1 ratings) 9 IMDB Rating 0
Colonna&Gambale Live - Maurizio Colonna, Frank Gambale
6.6.

At one time it was very fashionable to record these kinds of collaboration albums with two world class guitarists jamming it out. Can't blame them, because these sound so cool.
Darth Brutus's rating:
People who added this item 1 Average listal rating (1 ratings) 6 IMDB Rating 0
Live in Italy - John Patitucci, Brian Blade, Adam Rogers, Chris Potter_III
6.6.

Just another Patitucci. Nothing that special. Hang on there, we're almost done with this guy.
Darth Brutus's rating:
People who added this item 1 Average listal rating (1 ratings) 8 IMDB Rating 0
Raison D'Etre - Frank Gambale
6.6.

A very typical Gambale in a sense that there are plenty of brilliance here, like that one part where he throws in some cool reggae influences, and then there are parts where he is holding back too much.
Darth Brutus's rating:
People who added this item 4 Average listal rating (3 ratings) 7.7 IMDB Rating 0
Ghs 3 - Frank Gambale, Stuart Hamm, Steve Smith_XI
6.6.

Another one of these, and I still like them. Great fusion with attitude, but it wasn't as tight as before.
Darth Brutus's rating:
5.6.

This is essentially the same as the previous one, but I think now there's a little more variety thanks to all the great guest musicians.
Darth Brutus's rating:
People who added this item 1 Average listal rating (1 ratings) 7 IMDB Rating 0
An Evening With John Patitucci & Andy James - John Patitucci, Andy James
5.6.

This is very cool smooth old school jazz with some nice latino flavour. In a way I really like this.
Darth Brutus's rating:
People who added this item 1 Average listal rating (1 ratings) 6 IMDB Rating 0
Absolutely Live - in Poland - Frank Gambale
5.6.

I think where this album falls short is the fact that Frank is playing with a local band instead of his usual pals. It just sounds less good here.
Darth Brutus's rating:
People who added this item 4 Average listal rating (3 ratings) 8 IMDB Rating 0
Light Beyond - Frank Gambale,Stuart Hamm,Steve Smith_XI
5.6.

Ah, more of this goodness. I approve this trio.

Stock jazz album.

Coming to Your Senses - Frank Gambale
4.6.

Here's another Gambale. Pretty good album. His blues-driven guitar tone sounds particularly great here. It's like he cut the speed and instead went for more pinch harmonics, bends and such.
