American Beauty (1999)
Frank Fitts
It's hard to get this guy. Homophobic ex marine who is obviously suffering from PTSP, and is actually homosexual struggling with his own identity trying so hard not to get out of the closet. He beats on his wife and son and he has trust issues.
Nevertheless, i wasn't sure if i should put this guy on this list, because as much as I hated him, for some reason i couldn't help myself not to sympathize him.

Dolores Umbridge
No sympathy for her though. She is mean pupil abusing witch who enjoys suffering of other people. She is very sane but also very psychopathic. The terrifying thing about her is the strength of her conviction in her own righteousness and her total lack of self-doubt. Voldemort may be evil but he is nothing compared to her.
Stephen King called Umbridge "the greatest make-believe villain to come along since Hannibal Lecter", which doesn't surprise me because King clearly loves that kind of characters. Further in this list you will find couple of King's characters. (four to be exact)

The Green Mile (1999)
Percy Wetmore
First King's character would be this one. Spoiled little brat with no respect for authority, really childish and tends to go over the top. The scene fries a prisoner on dry sponge is sick and made me really hate him. No sympathy for this one.

Warden Norton
Second King's character is cruel, corrupted, murderous, narcissistic son of a bi*ch. Man did this guy pull my nerves. When the movie came up to the point of Tommy's confession, i knew he'll end up dead. And all of the sudden warden wants to talk with Tommy in the yard. I knew what was going to happen. I remember thinking "dont do it! dont do it, please dont do it", he gives a signal, "damn, he did it". It felt like a piece of me died at the moment. I officialy hatad the guy. When warden killed himself, i felt relief.

Margaret White
Third King's character is a religious fanatic. It doesn't take more for me to hate a character. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against religion, but i really can't stand people who push it over the top. I mean, what kind of a person do you have to be to try kill your own daughter in God's name because you think she's a witch. But that's not the only reason i hate her. I disliked her from the very begining.

Silent Hill (2006)
Christabella
Let me start this note by saying that this is one of the most underrated movies ever.
Christabella is not Stephen King's character, but she could very easily be one. Once again we have a religious fanatic and once again we have one that tries to murder a child. But this one is even worse for she tried to burn her alive. Very much like Dolores, she is convicted in her own selfrighteousness, and is trying to put a blame on someone for devastation of Silent Hill. Yet she is the one that's responsible for the faith of Silent Hill, but she is to vain to realize it.

Sleepers (1996)
Sean Nokes
Sean Nokes and his fellow guards really made me sick. How can someone do such a hideous things. the most horrifying thing about this movie is that the events that took place on the screen really happend and the four guards are real "human" beings. What kind of a person do you have to be to hit, sexually abuse and torture children. At least the justice was served. Altough if it was up to me, I would probably kill them all.

Nurse Ratched
Nurse Ratched is stern, controlling, and determined to squash all resistance to her authority. She believes in order above all, and is ready to realise that order by reduction of humans to robotic functions, with an elimination of any individual characteristics that might lead to rebellion. She is a metaphor for all forms of repression, particularly sexual, which works amazing against the character of McMurphy (who is symbolizing freedom). And the scene in which he tears open her uniform and unleashes her breasts and body works really well. As punishment, Ratched has McMurphy lobotomized. In that battle, authority, repression, and conservative sexuality wins, but readers are led to fight against what Ratched represents.

Pan's Labyrinth (2006)
Vidal
For all of you that did not notice, this whole movie is a metaphor, and Captain Vidal represents oppression and the essence of fachism. I belive that's quite a good reason to hate him. Even if you watch this movie from more literal perspective, he will still give you enough reason to want to kill him.

The Mist (2007)
Mrs. Carmody
The ultimate number one is the fourth King's character.
Anyone who has watched The Mist could have seen this one coming. Mrs. Carmody is such an hideous character that every time i see a picture of Marcia Gay Harden my skin crawls. Once again we have a religious fanatic, but this one is on the whole other level. There were couple of scenes that literally made me grab my hair and pull. Those scenes are the death of private Jessup and the ever epic line "We want the boy! Grab him! And the whore too!" plus a few more. And her everlasting preaching made me so sick I really wished for her to drop dead.

Review: Checking out this list after it's done made me realize something. The ability to hate a character on this level is often enabled by brilliant preformances.

Have you ever felt the urge to grab a knife, step into the screen and kill the hell out of a certain character. I most certainly did. But since it's impossible, the only thing that suffered was my hair.
I'm listing 10 movie characters that i really hated.
Don't get me wrong, I think these characters are brilliant, but also very obnoxious.
Also these characters are very important for the story. Without them the movie would suck.
