Netflix Instant Project for 2013

@Ricky49er - As VierasTalo said, yes you're allowed to support any films you want to that are on the list. So feel free to support away!

Okay, so I'll throw my support behind:

Quick question, how do you know when you see certain NIP2013 picks on other lists to have that mention put on your list because I saw and put The Brother from Another Brother on my Netflix Stream List.

@Ricky49er - I've linked to your list for Brother from Another Planet now. When I first added your support for it I checked your Netflix list & didn't see it there, so I held off on linking to it.

Guess now's as good a time as any to make this announcement...I'm taking the month of September off from here & putting movie watching on the back burner. Other "real world" things need my attention, so instead of sacrificing my free time to movies I'll be devoting it to other areas. So since I won't be around here much in September, portlander will take over this project & keep the list going next month.
I expect to be back for October, and will plan to spend that month doing my usual Horrorfest (month-long focus on horror movies yay!).
But while I'm still here...

OK, so it's like... three hours from being September now and I've been struggling for the past two weeks to keep in mind the movies I need to recommend. So
Recommendations for September:
Kiss of the Damned - www.listal.com/movie/kiss-of-the-damned
Possibly my favorite horror film from 2012. There's a long spew about why this is awesome in my film journal. It's from John Cassavetes's daughter and it's basically her father's mentality about life put into a Jean Rollin vampire film. Mesmerizing and extremely awesome.
Solomon Kane - www.listal.com/movie/solomon-kane
Basically if Van Helsing was done right, it might be like this. Solomon Kane however is also a barbarian movie so that's cool. It also sports a fantastic main character with a great actor, so heck, there's not much to hate. This movie getting buried in production hell after being finished sucks.

Best thing Mel Gibson has done in ages. Nothing spectacular but a thoroughly solid action romp.

Hi all
Recommendations for September:
Antiviral
Not for everyone, but anybody who enjoys David Cronenberg's earlier techno-organic scifi flicks (or scifi in general) should definitely give it a try. It can (and will) be disturbing, the pace of the movie might bother you somehow, but it is filled with great original ideas. I believe Brandon Cronenberg wrote and directed the movie his father always dreamed of making... Im looking forward to his next work.
Sex and Lucia (aka Lucia y el Sexo)
I hesitated a long time for the second rec but i decided to promote a director that I truly love, who is Julio Medem. This guy has a unique way of filming. Won't say much about the movie, only that it will make you want to live and make love ;) (and you will want to go to the island of Formentera).

The list has been updated.

Recommendations for September:
Superman Cartoons
A compilation of classic animated shorts done by animation pioneer, Dave Fleischer, based on the true blue Man of Steel. These are just great shorts that show impressive examples of experimental animation that was very influential for animation and comic book fans.
Batman: Under the Red Hood
My personal favorite Batman film in my opinion. It is just has everything that I want a good Batman film to be. It is high-quality release that gets overlooked due to being direct-to-video. However, I think this film is so good I think it could have gotten a theatrical release. Just a great under-appreciated flick.
Throwing My Support Behind:

I actually have this movie in "My List", so I finally have a more attentive reason to finally watch this film.

Batman: Under the Red Hood
Scored it relatively high on my list of Bat-films, it's a pretty good one. Certainly not without flaws but it's the most fucked up version of the Caped Crusader we'll probably ever see in animated form. Unless they start doing an adaptation of BloodStorm or something.

Recommending that you check out OSS 117: Lost in Rio - Leaves Netflix on Sept. 15th & well worth watching if you like spoof movies. I thought it was the one added to the project, but I'm mistaken. I'll have to watch the other one now.

OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies
I decided to support Giraffe and check out the film before it leaves Netflix. Besides, I'm interested in seeing the stuff that Michael Hazanavicius and Jean Dujardin did right before winning Best Picture for the Artist.
(Note: I'm also supporting the other OSS film since I already watched the first one and put in my Netflix Streaming list)

Just a heads-up that Don't Look Now leaves Netflix Instant on Oct. 1st.

This is not a recommendation or film support, but I was just curious how do you guys know which movies are about to leave Netflix Instant Watch. I was just wondering because I would be interesting in the heads up to see what movies from "My List" is going to leave anytime soon. Just curious in knowing.

Netflix posts on my queue a week in advance that a movie is leaving streaming, I really do wish they would give more notice, because it can be up to 20 movies a month they remove, and it is hard to get to them all in just a weeks time.

I depend almost entirely on the giraffe posting on this thread what's gonna be yanked from Netflix.

@Ricky49er - There are 2 ways I keep up with what's leaving. First off, I check my queue from their website. If I look at the full list I can see dates attached to the films that are leaving on there, and the dates tend to pop up at least a week ahead of time. Their peak times for removing content tend to be the 1st and 15th of every month, so checking about a week ahead of those dates is always a good idea.
Also, I access Netflix via smart TV, and somehow they actually show the dates for what's leaving about 15 days in advance (no clue if this is the case for ALL smart TVs mind you, but it's the case for my Sony). The downside there is I have to physically browse through ALL of my queue one film at a time to see if something's leaving, but the benefit is that I rarely get surprised by something leaving. I usually do that twice a month.
@Mackenzi - Glad I can help you out! :)

Seems right that I do all horror movies for October given that that's what I'll be watching all month long. That doesn't mean everyone else has to do the same of course.
Recommendations for October:
The Wolf Man (Surprised how few have seen it!)
The Serpent and the Rainbow
P.S.--I'm officially back now. Big thanks to portlander for keeping the list going last month!

Recommendation for October:
Room 237

Nice list of Horror films to choose from there, I already have a few of them on the docket to watch this month and might add a few more - and I will double down on my support for some of the ones I have already seen - particularly Rubber, House on Haunted Hill, Troll Hunter and Stake Land.
