To many, classic horror starts from the 70's or from early 80's. I disagree. To me it was from early 20's to mid 50's, the true predecessor of modern horror. Many of the well-known horror movies were made at this time and The Wolf Man is one of them. Although not the first werewolf movie, it certainly was the most influential and iconic. I consider the performance of Lon Chaney, Jr. as the doomed ... read more

Quite disappointed. :( To me, Chaney's acting is quite clunky. The famous wolf rig did not scare nor interest me. And the setup was clunky, too. All the repeated dialog about how it might be all in his mind, left over from a reported late script change, is now pointless.

OTOH - The sets are good and the photography is great. I loved the score! Evelyn Ankers is charming. Lugo... read more

Upon the death of his brother, Larry Talbot returns from America to his ancestral home in Wales. He visits a gypsy camp with village girl Jenny Williams, who is attacked by Bela, a gypsy who has turned into a werewolf. Larry kills the werewolf but is bitten during the fight. Bela's mother tells him that this will cause him to become a werewolf at each full moon. Larry confesses his plight to his unbelieving father, Sir John, who then joins the villagers in a hunt for the wolf. Larry, transformed by the full moon, heads for the forest and a fateful meeting with both Sir John and Gwen.

"OCTOBER 11 HM: I don't know if I have much to say about this movie. It was the very first time I saw it. I found Larry to be a very well-rounded character and he added just the right amount of humor. His courting behavior was hilarious. "

"THE DARK SIDE Lon Chaney Jr. As the prodigal son/awkward blue-blood and unfortunate victim of a werewolf bite that rendered him cursed, Chaney stepped out of his father’s shadow and created one of the most memorable—if not sorely underrated—movie monster performances of all time. Portraying the likeable Larry Talbot, Chaney’s character returns from America following the death of his brother in WWI to his family’s British estate. Although Chaney towered over his on-screen father (the eq"

CASTLEVANIA STYLE FILMS (49 movies items)

"Probably the dumbest looking wolf-man ever and surely no comparison to those of The Howling, Werewolf (TV series), or even American Werewolf in London. Yet it also served as the inspiration for those latter films. But I wouldn't say this holds up to the test of time...better off watching WOLF with Jack Nicholson "
