Definitely the best big budget, theatrically released sword & sorcery movie in what seems aeons. The emphasis is on the sword part of sword and sorcery; the sorcery bits more or less bookend the movie (budget). As i watched this Movie i just kept on being reminded of Van helsing ,,the characters are not that similar but the costumes and hair styles all are of helsing,,nice effects though good mixture of effects and action
The sorcery effects are above average though the story line is not that catching...

" It was not as bad as I expected it to be, it's even pretty decent. Visual effects are very well done, I loved Malachi's face. Sure the story is not a masterpiece, but it doesn't become a cliché."

" Note : Do you know what is worse than 'Van Helsing' ? A cheap ass wannabee version of 'Van Helsing'!!! Solomon Kane seems to be a pretty cool character but the whole thing was just poorly written and I was bored during the whole thing."

“When you watch the promotion stuff, this flick seems to look like 'Van Helsing'. I mean, James Purefoy could be a stand-in for Hugh Jackman, the costume and hat are really similar and it seems to be a similar genre. Actually, after watching this flick, I discovered that Solomon Kane is actually a fictional character created by the pulp-era writer Robert E. Howard (the guy who also created Conan). Anyway, was it any good ? Not really, I'm afraid... I mean, the directing was decent, there was a nice cast (James Purefoy, Max von Sydow, Rachel Hurd-Wood, Pete Postlethwaite, Jason Flemyng) but the special effects were not really convincing and, above all, I thought the whole thing was really poorly written with some major plot holes.
