"Absolutely bonkers nonsense that still reaches high emotions. Extremely on brand for what I love in pulpier silent film. Every intertitle mentioning hands create the dumbest damn themes you'll ever see with nothing but hand-hatred, hand-love and hand-cut-offery (along with a very random extra thumb!) to the brims. Browning's visual eye is fucking impeccable which, along with the Cheney close-ups, make this an incredible experience. It also moves like a speeding train. "
