I think this one nails it perfectly. We have two occult dabblers slash collectors, potrayed amicably by Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, the score is pretty cool, the director is fantastic, the photography splendid - and the concept of "things happening without one willing it" works: the skull just accidentally gets a pentagram around it etc. I noticed one minor flaw: when the items are flowing ... read more

Description: In the 19th century, a phrenologist robs the grave of the recently buried Marquis de Sade. He takes the Marquis's severed head and sets about boiling it to remove its flesh, leaving the skull. Before the task is done, Pierre meets an unseen and horrific death. In modern-day London, Christopher Maitland (Peter Cushing), a collector and writer on the occult, is offered the skull by Marco, an unscrupulous dealer in antiques and curiosities. Maitland learns that the skull has been stolen from Sir Matthew Phillips (Christopher Lee), a friend and fellow collector. Sir Matthew, however, does not want to recover it, having escaped its e ... "10.8.

"Two of the greatest British horror actors in Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee team up together once more but for Amicus this time round and not Hammer. Cushing's character is possessed by a skull supposedly of The Marquis De Sade and despite repeated warnings to get rid of it he doesn't and over time gradually becomes insane. Supporting Cushing and Lee amongst others are Patrick Wymark and Michael Gough. Under the direction of Freddie Francis, this is a little seen horror movie which builds up "
