"Watched on: November 15th, 2023. Wasn't the worst nor was it the best film in terms of the gangster genre, but it was pretty damn good nevertheless. "

"Make him cross-eyed and walk into walls: Terry Noonan: "Who's Irene?" Jackie Flannery: "Ooooh! You've got to meet her man. I spend one night with her my eyes are crossed for days. I walk into walls." "

“This crime drama doesn't seem to get enough love than it deserves when it was released in September 1990, most notably being overshadowed by both "Goodfellas" and "Miller's Crossing", which were released that same month. A standout cast from the likes of Sean Penn, Gary Oldman, Ed Harris, Robin Wright, John Turturro and John C. Reilly elevates this story about a Boston cop who returns home to Hell's Kitchen in New York to reconnect with his childhood friends, only for his loyalty to them being tested when they become part of the Irish mafia. It's a film that deserves to be given a second look thanks to the performances from its actors and something you wouldn't want to miss.” read more

" 1990 Directed By Phil Joanou & Michael Lee Baron Starring Sean Penn / Gary Oldman / Robin Wright Ed Harris / John Turturro / Burgess Meredith My Rating : 3.0 for Magnificent "

"This is a fine mobster film, especially with such outstanding cast (highlights for Gary Oldman). But I couldn't find in the end what the movie was really about. We hadn't Noolan's police side well explained, so we really don't get a whole scope of his motivation. And Ed Harris' character is so.... stupid, making just terrible decisions that really annoyed in the end."
