If you haven't seen this film, shame on you. Lol, I'm kidding. :) This was the first romance film which I fell in love with (yes, I notice the similarity). Everything was perfect, and I wholeheartedly agree with it winning the best picture for 1998. Or was it 1999? Anyway, it still won as Best Picture, and that alone says so... read more

" Critics were in love with Shakespeare in Love, some film goers were too. The film, came out at the right time, with the 90’s being the Decade of William Shakespeare. For many, this was also the film that introduced them to Gwyneth Paltrow, outside of the film Seven as well. It even won Best Picture, at the Oscars. Many felt that Saving Private Ryan, should have won instead. And was nominated for many Oscars, and won many too. "

“Shakespeare in Love was a fantastic film in all departments. You cannot go wrong with the splendid locations and the wondrous costumes. The screenplay was superlative, very witty and moving, and one of the few screenplays out there that completely blew me away. The direction from John Madden was spot on, and I believe it is the same John Madden who directed some of the greatest Inspector Morse episodes, and Inspector Morse in my opinion is the best British detective drama out there. And what a talented cast, with Joseph Fiennes utterly charming and handsome as William Shakespeare, and Gwyneth Paltrow in possibly her best performance was by every means captivating as Lady Viola.
