Review

It's so much worse when they manage to get you to like a movie before they turn it to shit.

I watched "Paint Your Wagons", a cheesy movie made in the 1960s based on a musical written in the 1940s based on life in California in the 1840s.

I fully expected this movie to suck - after all, it's a musical staring Clint Eastwood, and it got terrible reviews even from people wh... read more

To be honest, I wasnโ€™t really sure what to expect from this flick but since I have a weak spot for Clint Eastwood, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, even though I did appreciate the anarchist vibe, it is hardly surprising that it had been a commercial and critical flop when it was released as the whole thing turned out to be an overlong mess. The first bewildering thing was obviously... read more

Well, even though I did appreciate the anarchist vibe, it is hardly surprising that it had been a commercial and critical flop when it was released as the whole thing turned out to be an overlong mess. The first bewildering thing was obviously to have Eastwood playing in a musical and, even though it was nice that he tried something completely different, Iโ€™m afraid he wasnโ€™t really convincing. As a matter of fact, he seemed completely lost. On the other hand, even though Lee Marvin had received apparently some really bad critics when this movie was released, I thought he was actually pretty good. Apparently, he pretty much recycled” read more

"12/3/17 Plot wise this might be a mess and the warblings of Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood may not be up to the standard of other musicals yet there is something extremely fun watching two of the screen's hardest men singing about Wandrin' Stars and talking to trees. The energy from all is infectious and it's a perfect way to pass a Sunday afternoon."
