Having the ability to tackle a biographical film about a Hollywood icon is usually a very difficult task as a particular series of events that occur in one’s life is required for it to work as a solid story in a motion picture. I think that I’ve discovered a running theme this awards season: actresses delivering award caliber work in films that are far beneath their talent levels. Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Jessica Chastain in The Help spring to mind. Since this movie was well received when it was released, I was quite eager to check it out. Well, to be honest, I was surprised by how much I didn’t care for this movie after all.
