Set in beautiful 14th century Sweden, it is the sombre, powerful fable of peasant parents whose daughter, a young virgin, is brutally raped and murdered by swineherds after her half sister has invoked a pagan curse. By a bizarre twist of fate, the murderers ask for food and shelter from the dead girl's parents, who discovering the truth about their erstwhile lodgers, exact a chilling revenge.

" Date: 4/5/2020 Viewed: Criterion Channel First viewing Note: I always wanted to see this movie for years because this was the movie that inspired Wes Craven's Last House on the Left but never had the chance to watch this movie. I also wanted to see more movies from Ingmar Bergman because I really enjoy the three movies that I've seen from him (The Seventh Seal, Persona, and Hour of the Wolf). While this movie didn't blow me away, I still really enjoy it. I love the cinematography in this m"
