A handful of funny moments, especially Elizabeth Shue portraying herself. But many of the gags feel strained, contrived for maximum weirdness with little connection to character or story. For some reason, I found the final montage of Hamlet setting right the wrongs of the play strangely moving.

A funny movie

Basically, there was a time when I would go to a video game shop (which is now closed) and I would buy there on a regular basis 5 DVDs for 5 euros and, sometimes, since I would be missing 1 DVD, I would pick up pretty much anything at random just to reach 5 movies. Anyway, following this amazing process, I ended up watching some rather obscure movies and this one was definitely one of them. Eventu... read more

I really dislike Steve Coogan so imagine my surprise when I finished Hamlet 2 with a new respect for him. He is almost unrecognizable from his trademark characters as the hippy-esque drama teacher, Dana, complete with American accent and long hair. All that remains are the hideous teeth and the stupid grin.

I can believe that Hamlet 2 was a hard sell to audiences. A failing drama te... read more

A world premiere at - and the comedy smash of - the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. In the irreverent comedy, a failed actor-turned-worse-high-school-drama teacher (Steve Coogan) rallies his Tucson, AZ students as he conceives and stages a politically incorrect musical sequel to Shakespeareโ€™s Hamlet.

Best Films of 2008 (100 movies items)

"Coogan is a maniac and it's almost as if he knows this is a shitty movie he is starring him but he doesn't give a shit and he just delivers a manic performance that, clearly, few people have grown to appreciate. Film stumble along into a climactic performance of 'Hamlet 2' and proves to be a nice payoff."

Movies the giraffe watched in 2017: April (28 movies items)

"First viewing - April 22nd This came up somehow while talking to my co-worker friend, and after he encouraged me to check out a trailer and I told him it looked amusing he let me borrow his copy. And it's definitely amusing. It's not great by any means (weaknesses abound with some of the acting & comedic moments fall flat at times), but I was consistently entertained by it & was satisfied with it overall. I wouldn't need to watch it again, but I could be persuaded to with the right company."
