“To be honest, I wasn't really sure what to expect from this flick but since I have a weak spot for Jean-François Richet's work, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, 10 years after the rather underwhelming 'Assault on Precinct 13', Richet tried a 2nd time to deliver an English speaking feature but, even though it was at least a decent watch, it wasn't much more than that, I'm afraid. Above all, even if I didn't expect anything really groundbreaking, I was surprised by how completely basic this movie was. In fact, nothing much happened through the whole duration and most of it focused on the interations between this father and his daughter which would have been fine if both characters would have been really interesting and/or entertaining. Unfortunately, even though I have to admit” read more
"First viewing - June 28th I've been curious about Blood Father ever since PvtCaboose91 sang its praises. And while I can't argue with his points about what makes the film worthwhile, I also wasn't as excited by the film as he was. Which is fine. It's a solid film all around, but as he also mentions in his review it needed a few more scenes or some added attention to the scenes that exist to really propel the emotional side of the film and make it hit home. That worked against the film I felt, w"

"12.11. Isänpäivän kunniaksi katsoin Mel Gibsonin isäaiheisen elävän kuvan, jossa Gibsonin tytär sekaantuu vääriin miehiin. Parrakas isi sitten haetaan apuun ja meininki on kautta linjan "suoraan videolle" -kamaa. Tämä tosin toimii elokuvan eduksi aina siihen asti, kunnes Gibson ajaa partansa pois."
" DVD- 1hr. 28min. First Viewing Blood Father is, at the end of the day, a b-movie. B-movies can be fun if done well, and this one, mostly, is. Gibson's past adds most of the weight to the role, and film, (I'm not sure it would've worked as well without someone with his past), and his performance really does power this film beyond being disposable schlock (it still is schlock, but the fun kind). "Mel Gibson is superb as the recovering alcoholic and criminal with a heart. Devoted to his daughter, whom he neglected when she was a child, Gibson's character reunites with her now in her early twenties and deep in trouble after she has shot her boyfriend who is a part of a drugs cartel. With some excellent scenic background in the American Southwest, the movie unfolds as the father and daughter renew their acquaintance in a series of action scenes. One of the strengths of the film is the dialo"

Mel Gibson's first star vehicle since the insanely underrated Get the Gringo all the way back in 2012, Blood Father is far more than just another subpar straight-to-video action flick. Adapted from the novel of the same name by Peter Craig (who co-wrote the screenplay with Andrea Berloff), this is a hard-edged thriller more concerned with characters than action, finding a solid emotional core which elevates the material far above more disposable B-grade trash starring the likes of Steven Seagal. It's a shame that some will most likely either underrate or simply ignore Blood Father on account of Gibson's presence, as such punters will be missing out on one hell of a gratifying movie, one of 2016's best. It's certainly better than ” read more
" "I got no idea how you piss guys like that off..." Here's a motion picture I've been looking forward to since it was first announced a few years ago, but the wait was worth it. Mel Gibson still has genuine acting talent, a fact that's increasingly evident throughout Blood Father, which features perhaps his finest performance to date, alongside Lethal Weapon. (Gibson's character even lives in a dingy trailer, very reminiscent of Martin Riggs' abode.) More than just a B-grade actioner, Blood Fath"
