Sleeping Beauty strikes me as a rather straight forward movie. There is little in this movie that will strike the viewer as unexpected. Yet, perhaps that's why Sleeping Beauty is still loved to this day, it's pure simplicity and basic story telling.

Personally, Sleeping Beauty is the greatest achievement in the Disney canon, as far as narrative features are concerned. Nothing has come close to matching the sheer visual audacity, invention, beauty, and scope of the film. Even though it might be surprising, from the 3 classic Disney fairy tales ('Snow White', 'Cinderella' and this feature), this movie is actually easily my favorite one. Indeed, the animation is just gorgeous, even after all these years, it has one of the best soundtracks ever delivered by Disney and even the songs worked for me.
