Deep Red (1975)
Argento's finest film is truly definition to whole genre. In first time I didn't like this movie that much. Second time was different for me. The film just blowed my mind. I realized that this is the ultimate masterpiece of the giallo genre. Plot isn't that good. Yet I consider it's much better than many other giallo stories. But the visual style of Argento, that's the whole thing. It's like candy to your eyes. Also music composed by Goblin is their very best.

In my opinion this is the giallo. It's just fun to watch. Very entertaining film. If you haven't seen it, shame on you!

Tumppi's rating:

This movie is the real hidden gem of the genre. Visual style is almost as good that in Deep Red. The storyline is also very good and entertaining. There is mild graphic violence and some gruesome scenes. Still I think that this film isn't about gore. This is so much beyond that. Perfect film and the second best of the genre.

Tumppi's rating:

It was really hard to pick number 3. What Have You Done to Solange? is very stylish giallo. It contains disturbing images and great plot. I have to say that it's not that scary or gory film. Still it does outstanding work delivering sad story to alive. Never I haven't seen such a cruel way to torture young girls. That just makes me so sad, in a good way. Only powerful films can do that and What Have You Done to Solange? sure is that kind of film.

Tumppi's rating:

Disturbing and haunting images. All the Colors of the Dark is true master piece from Sergio Martino. It contains most sick and twisted plot in the genre. Yet I haven't seen another film that makes me feel this much pain, in a good way. Edwige Fenech is most beautiful giallo girl of history and Ivan Rassimov has the bluest eyes that will haunt you forever.

The New York Ripper (1982)
Fulci's vicious giallo is one of the most notable films of the genre. Gore is out of the line and the killer only kills women. Maybe Fulci was women hater, but still this is one of his finest works. Story is silly and it doesn't make sense. Yet I like the killer so much. That duck voice is so cool and unique. Also the killers style is unique, when he/she kills. This movie contains one of the best killing scenes.

A Lizard in a Woman's Skin (1971)
Another great giallo by Fulci. A Lizard in a Woman's Skin is hauntig and disturbing like All the Colors of the Dark. Plot is kind of good and the story is very nicely done. Have to say that this is well done film by Fulci. People always say that he didn't have that much talent as a visual director. I think this movie will prove them wrong.

Tumppi's rating:

Unsane (1982)
The plot is kind of silly, but gore and actors are fine example that movie doesn't always need good story. Can't say this is Argento's best film. Yet it's still one of the best giallos he ever made. Goblin's soundtrack is very wicked stuff. Also Argento's fine camera work really show how cool director he once was. Sadly this is the last great giallo from the master of the genre. He made Opera after this, witch was an decent film, but notting to compere Tenebre.

Tumppi's rating:

The Psychic (1977)
Yet another film by Fulci. Guess he was one of the greatest giallo directors with Argento. The Psychic is more like horror film, but it contains so much giallo style that I think it'll shoot perfectly on this list. Story is more or less hard to understand. Still it makes good effort bringing chiling feeling to your bones. Good and stylish movie.

Argento's debut film is quite good giallo. Not his best, but defenetly not his worst. Storyline is much easier than you would think. That doesn't take the plesure away. It's fun to watch wicked camera work and listen Morricone's great soundtrack. Really powerful debut by mister Argento.

Tumppi's rating:

This one could be the first giallo ever made. Bava's stylish b/w picture is good example that all you need is good cameraman. Acting is kind of boring, but it doesn't ruin the whole movie. Cause this one has one of the best cigarette scenes of history. Smokinig is bad, but it looks so damn good. Also the story is interesting and keeps audience wake to the end.
