While waiting for the next big cinematic trend(s) to capitalize on for the youth market, AIP branched out into distributing various imported films (mostly from Italy, England and later Japan) for theatrical release in the U.S. during most of the 60's. Through the production and direction expertise of Roger Corman (who had been with the company as a regular director/producer from the very beginning), they also hit box office paydirt with a series of gothic horror film adaptations adapted from the stories of Edgar Allan Poe. In addition to those, the "Beach Party" franchise and a series of "one off" motorcycle gang and drug counterculture movies also proved to be very popular. Horror film veteran Vincent Price had a surprising career renaissance as AIP's most prolific contract star. Other studio regulars included Peter Lorre, Ray Milland, Frankie Avalon, Annette Funicello, Dennis Hopper, Peter Fonda and Jack Nicholson. For another decade, the company remained profitable with their low budget fare that catered to the kids, teens and drive-in theater crowds.
With all the various movies that AIP produced, distributed or acquired from all over the world, some lesser known titles may have slipped through the cracks but otherwise, this is as complete of a filmography as I could compile for AIP's 1960's output. AIP also launched a television division during this time and several of their movies (most of which were actually originally intended for theatrical release) are also included here and are noted as such in their entries.
