During the second half of the 1950's, it was looking more and more like new UA owners' Arthur Krim and Robert Benjamin's prediction that the company would become profitable again by the end of the decade was coming true. In between the numerous low budget programmers and potboilers, UA was releasing a wide variety of prestigious pictures once again. Among the production companies that were regularly releasing their successful films through UA during this time were The Mirisch Company, John Wayne's Batjac Productions, Burt Lancaster's Hecht-Hill-Lancaster Productions and Kirk Douglas' Bryna Productions. UA was entering a newfound golden age. The company that was on the verge of shutting down in 1950 would become Hollywood's most stable and prosperous independent distribution outlet by 1960 and would hold on to that position for the next two decades.
