Now You See Me (2013)
Watched 10.12.
Wow, absolute crap. Jesse Eisenberg and Isla Fisher are sooo annoying. And the twist, oh, come on!

Re-watched 7.11.
Was one of my favorites a few years ago, and nowadays is more like a 4/5 stars movie for me but I don't feel lowering the rate. Portman, Oldman and Reno are so good together.

Alive (1993)
Watched 7.11.
This movie took me through a whole emotional scale. First, wtf, John Malkovich, seriously? Then a plane scene, and a enormous irritation caused by very lousy acting, it was like watching a bad telenovela. Oh yeah, the story is based on a true story that happened to this Uruguayan rugby team, but in Alive Americans play the Uruguayans, they are made to look like latinos with dark hair and such but they of course speak English. How did they get away with that? Couldn't they find Spanish speaking actors or something.. Ethan Hawke a Uruguayan? Maybe I just don't have enough imagination.
Okay, at times I could forget that bothering fact, and in the midway through the movie it was almost average/okay drama(/survival) movie. Towards the end and especially in the end I almost tear up.. BUT THEN: John Fucking Malkovich appears again. Come on! But thanks for reminding not to take this movie seriously. (Couldn't they honestly find anyone else?)

The Curse of Frankenstein (1957)
Damn he ugly.
Watched 6.11.
I read they didn't get the rights for the Boris Karloff makeup so they had to compromise a little. This British contribution of Frankenstein differs from the Universal one in other ways too. For example "The Creature" evokes no sympathy and Frankenstein is a lot crazier, almost psychotic; A real mad scientist. The movie itself was entertaining towards the end and the plot was surprisingly surprising.

The Old Dark House (1932)
Watched 6.11.
I longed for more horror elements but their paucity is understandable because it's an old movie. Not a lot actually happens in this but Boris Karloff and "the family mystery" kept me interested.

Four Horsemen barely scratched the surface of the topic it supposedly dealt with (what's wrong with the form of capitalism that rules the world today) and doesn't really bring anything new to the table. It's obvious that the theme is too vast to process within a single documentary. It brought up such topics as resources, consumerism, money, currency and so on. I think they should do a whole series of documentaries about capitalism focusing in one topic at a time.

I loved it the first time I saw it and loved it even more this time. Everything is done perfectly and Natalie Portman just nails her part. The mother-daughter relationship is very interesting. Ballet is a very interesting theme and setting itself, for it's known for discipline and chasing for perfection. No wonder if it messes with your head.
Too often movies with the same kind of plot as this they explain at the end what it all means and it really kills it for me. Fortunately, in Black Swan they don't and they let you to decide what to believe in. For me it's very clear how do I read it but I like how someone else might have totally different opinion about it.

Dressed to Kill (1980)
Watched 3.11.
Minus the very unnecessary dream scene in the end Dressed to Kill was pretty good! (Watching it I realized how much I hate these dream scenes! And they use them in films so often. Revealing some intense scene being just a nightmare - it's just blah.) At the start I thought it was going to be boring but it got interesting very quickly. It liked it how they chose 48-year-old Angie Dickinson for the role of Kate Miller.
Bambie's rating:
Aguirre: The Wrath of God (1972)
Watched 3.11.
Klaus Kinski does very impressive a performance. You can kinda predict what will happen in the end it but it doesn't matter because what's important is how they get there. The expedition gradually (almost undetected) decreasing and Aguirre's unflinching stance towards it are just few of the things I love about Aguirre. I like how at times we can see a glimpse of Aguirre's humane side: when he talks to his daughter.
Bambie's rating:
The Wicker Man (1973)
Watched 3.11.
What's interesting about The Wicker Man it doesn't unambiguously fit to any specific genre. It's a combination of horror, mystery, musical, eroticism and so on. The horror being unobvious perhaps makes the movie even scarier. It brings horror to broad daylight and makes seemingly unscary things like children intimidating.
Bambie's rating:
Annie Hall (1977)
Watched 2.11.
I've been procrastinating watching this for too long. Now I'm glad I finally watched it. Very funny, I actually laughed out loud many times. Next Manhattan!

Chapter 27 (2007)
Watched 1.11.
Blah. Waste of weight gaining in my opinion. Sorry Jared.
If nothing else, they did well with making the character of Mark David Chapman nasty.
Bambie's rating:
Dracula (1958)
Watched 1.11.
The colors look great and I enjoy watching Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing in the same movie. It's not perfect though. The Curse of Frankenstein is very high on my watch list and it also has the two actors above on it. So gonna watch that soon!
Bambie's rating:
The Wolf Man (1941)
Watched 1.11.
The gypsy Bela Lugosi and the gypsy granny made my laugh, especially the granny always being in the right place at the right time with her wagon. Surprisingly, at times The Wolf Man actually looked kinda nasty, the way it walked gave me the chills. Larry Talbot's mental breakdown was well executed.

Frankenstein (1931)
Watched 1.11.
My heart breaks for The Monster, especially in the lake scene. It's awful how he is even called "The Monster", all he did was react to their cruelty in a way natural to him. Great social criticism.
Boris Karloff is just irreplaceable as The Monster.
Bambie's rating:
Candyman (1992)
Watched 28.10.
A lot better than I expected! The contrast between different urban areas (the ghetto and the white middle class) is a great element. Societal themes combined with (sometimes almost slashery) horror is interesting as well as the idea of "Candyman".
Bambie's rating:
Blacula (1972)
Watched 28.10.
Some might disagree with the four stars but for me Blacula is pure entertainment (though I admit it has its boring parts too).
Bambie's rating:
Carnival of Souls (1962)
Watched 26.10.
Carnival of Souls has the makings of a good (horror) film, but something is still missing for me to really like it. It's surrealistic appearance looks great, though, and some stills are very pretty.
Bambie's rating:
The Tingler (1959)
Watched 26.10.
I don't know what it is but I really liked this one. Five stars might be an overestimation but who cares. I just really like the idea of the "parasitic creature that we grow inside of us in a extreme state of fear and which can only be removed by screaming".

The Phantom of the Opera (1925)
Watched 21.10.
Horror being my favorite movie genre I feel like educating myself so I decided to start watching a lot of horror classics. I'm going to do a decade a day, skipping the 00s and 10s though, because I've seen so many of them already.
Bambie's rating:
Halloween II (2009)
Watched 20.10.
Yayy, I finally finished the Halloween franchise! This one was one of the weirdest parts of it, consisting a lot of characteristics untypical to the Halloween movies. I wonder which franchise should I take up next? Maybe The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (4 out of 7 movies to go)..
