Frank Zappa was the greatest musical composer of the 20th century. A brash comment? i should think so. Frank was brilliant, he released more than 60 albums in his life and more than 30 albums after death, thats more albums than he lived on this planet!!
Now its fairly certain theres 3 types of people reading this right now they are
1) the people who haven't heard of Frank Zappa
2) those who have heard of him but find him too abstract
3) Fans of Frank
If youre a member of 1 i urge you to hear him, and you'll either love it or hate it, he has a very marmite taste to him like that.
Why is he unappreciated? while he was voted 22nd on the rolling stones greatest guitarist list and 71st on their greatest artist. i feel like he is still horribly unknown and that his genius is still unappreciated.

Syd. If you know who he is you're either a Pink Floyd fan or a psychedelic fan either way round you're welcome round my house any day.
He was the figurehead of the underground scene in London in the 60s, created the album "pipers at the gates of dawn" but died in a small house in Cambridge. How is this possible? He was the earliest drug causality of the 60s and I yearn for him to be known but i see that this is a impossibility and us few who know of him can mourn in silence and alone.

The King of the Avant Garde. The Creator of "Trout Masked Replica". Beefheart is a prime example of an unappreciated genius although he made himself this due to his lack of interest in touring and his quiting of the music industry in 1982. A legend died in 2010 but few mourned him.

I know what you're all thinking "Donovan wasn't good he was a cheap Bob Dylan" No! He wasn't like Bob, maybe at the begining of his career but by the late 60s he was decidedly his own man and had a loyal fanbase but all this has vanished by the 21st century with Donovan now a relative unknown in the world of music while his counterpart Bob is still regarded as a genius, Donovan can't even sell out his gigs.

As a guitarist he is regarded very highly. But as a soloist and the driving force of Dire Straits i believe he is ignored, and although he is the only known member of them, i do believe that people do ignore the fact that he composed the masterpieces known as "Sultans of Swing" and "Romeo and Juliet".

When i mention Rock n Roll i expect a few names to be mentioned "Elvis" "Buddy Holly" "Chuck Berry" "Jerry Lee Lewis" but one name that is never mentioned is Bo Diddley, who created the Bo beat the most influencial beat on the guitar and helped influence millions of guitarist.

Jimi Hendrix once said Rory was the greatest guitarist ever. Yet how many people know who he is... Few.....barely any. And those who know him are all in awe of him. do yourself a favour listen to his song"Philby" and prepare for the music of gods.

The great Blues player, Alongside B.B King, Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker. He truly revolutionised music and is in fact appreciated. In the world of music that is, so many musicians count him as an influence it is ridiculous but like many other blues players he is ignored by the mass public. Name a brilliant guitarist and they all loved him.Jimi Hendrix- called him one of the greatest musicians ever. Eric Clapton- one of his first albums was a howlin wolf one. Jimmy Page- another known Howlin Wolf Lover.

Probably the least known out of all of these. Arthur is more a Cult hero than anything. He created "forever changes " one of the greatest albums ever, but except that.... he did little, he went to jail, toured and died. But what he left us with is so brillant that it should be crime to not know of him, or at least his band "love".

One of the greatest songwriters, greatest singers. But also one of the greatest things ever ignored by the mass public. why? i don't know.
