Controversy: The implied depiction of the BP oil spill at the Gulf of Mexico.
I personally don't see what's wrong with it but I guess its controversial because it is taking a stab at big oil companies.
Controversy: Anna Wintour's choices for the "World's Next Top Models."
Anna Wintour was mainly criticized for making choices based on favoritism. Many say this was not representative of the current top 8 models in high fashion. Calling the girl's the "World's Next Top Models," was also criticized because some of them had already been very well established in the fashion world, most notably, Raquel Zimmermann, who has been established in high fashion since 2000.

Controversy: Kate Upton, a glamor model, being on the cover of Vogue Italia.
Controversy: Anna Wintour puts a celebrity instead of a model on the cover of Vogue.
I think Madonna is a decent choice for a Vogue cover even though she is not a model because she was a major fashion influencer. But I absolutely despise it in the sense that this was known as the beginning of Anna Wintour "changing the face of Vogue" by putting actresses and singers on the cover instead of just models.
Carolyn Murphy poses with transgender, Andre J.
According to the gossip vine, a secondary controversy also erupted because it appeared that Andre J was supposedly impersonating Naomi Campbell. Rumor has it that Naomi was furious when she saw this cover and thew it across the room. Whether or not that is actually true, we will never know.
