One of Scorsese's favorite films, and it's understandable considering the similarities to the more exceptional 'The Red Shoes'. It's fine display of color and dance make it entertaining but it's difficult to watch a cinematic version of ballet nearly the entire time.

Seven Samurai is his best, but Ikiru shows how truly brilliant and well-rounded Kurosawa is as a filmmaker.

Limelight (1952)
A beautiful love story of a young dancer and an old clown. Chaplin is incredible in the lead and behind the camera. Claire Bloom is entirely enchanting, so much so that I can't believe she wasn't in more.

One of Minnelli's early works and one of his best and one of the best classic films about a more classic Hollywood.
ALSO one of Scorsese's favorite films.
