The Cabin in the Woods (2011)

Cabin in the Woods is one of the most brilliant movies ever made. Whedon and Goddard were playing this one on such a meta-level that it's unbelievable.
Everything from the title (how many horror movies are about cabins in the woods?) to the trailer to
Whenever someone doesn't like this movie the first thing they say is, "It's not scary." Well, past a certain age how many horror movies are? Very, very few. I'm fine with Cabin in the Woods not trying to be scary.

The Raid: Redemption (2011)
My new favorite action movie. There's hardly any plot, there's no character development and it's non-stop action. Literally. There's maybe three breaks in the killing.
It's an amazingly brutal movie with some incredible martial arts. The only problem with the movie is that the action is so relentless it becomes fatiguing. By the incredible end fight I was kind of tired of watching guys fight.

Seven Psychopaths (2012)
A very funny, clever, meta movie from that guy who brought us "In Bruges." It reminded me a lot of "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang."

The Man with the Iron Fists (2012)
This is not a good movie...RZA might've been too ambitious with a lot of his choices, the writing's a mess, the acting is generally poor. But I still enjoyed it. All I wanted was for it to be crazy and it was crazy. Not a lot makes sense in this movie and there's some decent action.
I'm not sure whether my enjoyment of the movie is ironic or not, but I did enjoy it.

Ted (2012)
Look, I don't expect a lot from a Seth MacFarlane movie about a crude, talking teddy bear, but god damn was this thing terribly written. I only laughed a few times and the jokes were so lazy. A guy has a duck named James Franco.

All the movies I saw that had their wide release in 2012.
