nice depth of lighting

The set design and the depth achieved in the lighting are both exceptional -- too bad cinematographer Charles J. Stumar died in 1935. The film features many distinct and interesting characters throughout. Well-acted and atmospheric overall.

(OK) Henry Hull, great actor wasted to the horror universe, al leats was in this anticipation of werewolf theme, with the moon inspiration, the lock himself drama, and just a flower instead of a silver bullet as diference,

The juice of a rare Tibetan flower is the only thing that keeps Dr. Glendon from turning into a werewolf during a full moon.

My Top 20 Halloween Favorites: Werewolves (20 movies items)

"The very first werewolf movie, preceding the more famous Wolf Man, starring Lon Chaney Jr. (son of make-up master Lon Chaney, who's contribution to the horror genre is too well known to even mention). And, as a first time effort to cinematically depict a half-man/half-wolf hybrid howler, it ain't too bad. In fact, it's pretty darn good. So good, that there are some horror enthusiasts who think it's even better than The Wolf Man. Now, I ain't one of those enthusiasts, but I still enjoy it enough"

"While on a botanical expedition in Tibet Dr. Wilfred Glendon is attacked in the dark by a strange animal. Returning to London, he finds himself turning nightly into a werewolf and terrorizing the city, with the only hope for curing his affliction a rare Asian flower, the Mariphasa."

DVDecember 2018 (41 movies items)

"Re-watch - Dec. 23rd Universal Horror marathon I recognize that this list is severely lacking movies made prior to my birth, so I made a point on this day to watch a handful of films from my Universal Horror collection to make up for it. I kicked off the day with Werewolf of London which was pretty good. The make-up effects for the werewolf are pretty cool, and it was interesting to see a take where the werewolf retained some of its rational thought instead of becoming a complete beast. I don't"
