"FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: ★★★½ NOTES: Six seconds of footage of horses stumbling in the midst of a battle were cut out by James Ferman due to allegations of animal cruelty. There are no wear-based cuts until the final reel, as Walker and his colony walk down the stairs guns blazing in which several frames are skipped over, otherwise the condition is quite good for its age. DATE: April 2nd 2025 CINEMA: The Prince Charles Cinema LOCATION: West End"

" Walker is a 1987 American-Mexican historical, hybrid/weird western film directed by Alex Cox and starring: Ed Harris, Richard Masur, René Auberjonois, Peter Boyle, Miguel Sandoval and Marlee Matlin. The film is based on the life story of William Walker, the American filibuster who invaded and made himself president of Nicaragua. It was written by Rudy Wurlitzer and scored by Joe Strummer, who has a small role as a member of Walker's army. The film is intentionally full of postmodern anac"

"Also known as Fishing with Walker, this is what we have to thank the beautiful narration in Fishing with John for because it's the same bit. However, when the satirical straight-faced narration spouting ridiculous nonsense clearly not describing the events on screen is applied to a grim, very darkly humorous western about taking over Nicaragua with a bunch of savages ("the bravest men I had ever seen!") under the lead of a man whose intellectual savvy could be described as that of a broken tooth"
"2.8. Alex Coxin kertomus ylväästä pööpöilijästä on samalla hyvää perseilyä ja 1800-luvulle sijoittumisestaan huolimatta purevaa kritiikkiä Reaganin ajan hallinnon toimiin Keski-Amerikassa. Ed Harris esittää pätevästi omasta erinomaisuudestaan hullaantunutta ja todellisuudesta täysin pihalla olevaa valloittajaa, joka sattuu vahingossa omat miehensä uhraamalla onnistumaan sisällissodan kynsissä olevan Nicaraguan valloittamisessa. Elokuvan vahvuuksia on se, ettei se alleviiva"
