What an intriguing picture... It is rather weird when you think that this movie was a big box-office success and one of the highest grossing pictures coming out that year. Can you imagine if they would release today a movie with a similar story? I have to admit that I'm not a religious person, I don't even believe in God so it was rather difficult for me to understand why such an attractive bright... read more

Respectfull, deep, unsdertanding of the fight inside a nun, her preide, her desires, her ingenuity. Hélas, Hepburn wins over the nun.

Description: In 1930, in Belgium, Gabrielle van der Mal is the stubborn daughter of the prominent surgeon Dr. Pascin Van Der Mal that decides to leave her the upper-class family to enter to a convent, expecting to work as nun in Congo with tropical diseases. " Director: Fred Zinnemann His 15th movie My 8th movie watched from the director This was apparently a controversial movie, so I was expecting a more controversial story or scenes... then again, I shouldn't have considering it was 1959 in a still-very Christian/Catholic USA. It basically just painted the church and nuns as imperfect and not so squeaky clean. Still, Hepburn pulled off a hell of a performance, one of her best.
