Apparently, this movie was the last one Charles Chaplin made during the silent era and it is yet another flick I have seen many times when I was a kid. Indeed, I remember it very well. When we first meet Chaplin's Tramp in this comic gem, he's in typical straits: broke, hungry, destined to fall in love and lust just as sure to lose the girl. Mistaken for a pickpocket and pursued by a peace officer into a circus tent, the Tramp becomes a star when delighted Patrons think his escape from John Law is an act. Classic highlights include a frenetic fun-house sequence, the Tramp turningia magic skit into mayhem and his teetering tightrope walk while monkeys cling to his head. This is comedy without a net!

"First viewing - May 23rd Decided to kick off another Sunday afternoon with a silent film since it paid off well last month. The Circus is one of two Chaplin films on Max I hadn't seen yet, so away we went. And it's a lot of fun, solidly entertaining but nothing I'd go so far as to call great. I'd happily sit through it again some time."
