Now here’s an oddity i’ve not seen for years but which i enjoyed and whose central idea has fascinated and stayed with me. In the first section we’re in Plague-stricken medieval England and a world of black and white and then, after some tunnelling with our intrepid travellers and visionary young guide (Tarkovsky fans would do right to think Stalker and Andrei Rublev’s bell-maker) we pop u... read more

Description: Here is an astonishingly effective New Zealand film about dreams, death, community, and the mystical dimensions of the human heart. Harnish McFarlane plays a nine-year-old visionary residing in a small English mining village in the fourteenth century. His older brother (Bruce Lyons) returns from his travels with news of the approaching Black Plague. To avoid sure death, the community needs to place a spire on a cathedral before dawn in a faraway city. In a dream, the boy sees this act accomplished. Accompanied by his brother and three others, he crawls through a shaft in a mountain to the other side of the earth. They arrive in ... (more)

The future kind of sucks. (430 movies items)

"Why the future sucks: You’re in time period, that makes no sense to you. Granted, you’re also from the Medieval ages, where there is also the bubonic plaque... Year it takes place: 1988"

" A young boy in 14th century Cumbria (north of England) keeps getting visions he cannot explain. His village has so far been spared from the black death, but the villagers fear its imminent arrival. With the boy as their guide, a group set out to dig a hole to the other side of the world, so as to fulfil the visions and save the village. At the 'other side' is 20th century New Zealand !.. N.B. Flips from B+W to colour frequently. The film, featured performances by Chris Hayward, Marshall N"

"Format: Blu-Ray Viewing: 1st Thoughts: I had been searching for this film for the longest time and it did have an interesting concept with some dope visuals. But overall it just felt a little flat and underwhelming."

"13.10. Uusiseelantilaisessa kulttielokuvassa ruttoa pelkäävä pikkukylä päättää valjastaa näkyjä näkevän pojan johdolla kulkevan seurueen, joka matkustaa ajassa etsimään jumalallista parannuskeinoa Eurooppaa piinaavaan tautiin. Upeasti kuvattuna taide-elokuvana alkava The Navigator: A Medieval Odyssey muuttuu nykyaikaan päästessään hassuvitsejä sisältäväksi 80-luvun seikkailuelokuvaksi, jossa keskiajalta saapuneet matkalaiset ihmettelevät 80-luvun maailmanmenoa kuin Spock "
