An old classic

To be honest, it is a rather obscure flick and I had no idea what to expect from this flick but since it was on the ‘1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die’ list, I was quite eager to check this flick. Eventually, even though I thought it was indeed pretty good, I failed to see what was so great about it. Apparently, I have read somewhere that it is even Roman Polanski’s favorite movie of ... read more

In the aftermath of a botched hold-up, intended to finance the activities of his IRA cell, a wounded Johnny McQueen takes shelter in the back-alleys of Belfast, a shadowy underworld where sanctuary is freighted at every moment with peril. Meanwhile, a vast police manhunt is launched -- a net that closes steadily, remorselessly in upon him.

" Notes: Eventually, even though I thought it was indeed pretty good, I failed to see what was so great about this movie. Apparently, I have read somewhere that it is even Roman Polanski’s favorite movie of all time. Basically, it is a very old movie and the most striking element about this movie is how dark and gloomy the whole thing was. It was still pretty good though , especially if you compare it to the garbage we usually get nowadays. One of the biggest asset in this flick was James Maso"

Slant’s 100 Best Film Noirs of All Time (100 movies items)

"Carol Reed’s Odd Man Out is a character study wrapped in the guise of a sociopolitical thriller, and a work which accordingly plays better when accentuating the moral and personal complexities of the former through the aesthetic prism of the latter, shedding the weight of topical investment even as the shadows of its influence hang literally and figuratively on the film’s dramatic landscape. As in The Third Man, which was also rooted in the feel of poetic realism and the look of German Expre"
