(OK) Tati has his own world of ancient tics, and nostalgia of recilcers and postmen and children and dogs in the streets versus a parodia of automatization in every detai, even in the short paces of a secretary in high heels...

A classic

Since this movie has a really strong reputation, I was quite eager to check it out. By now, I have seen almost all the movies directed by Jacques Tati (I’m only missing ‘Trafic’) but, to be honest, even though I can say I’m quite familiar with his work, I’m afraid I never became a huge fan. Basically, with Tati, I actually understand more or less what he tried to achieve and I truly thin... read more

Description: Jacque Tati's second feature film and first film in color reintroduces his hilarious Chaplinesque alter ego, M. Hulot. After having followed Hulot on his sun-drenched, ... Full Descriptionfoible-filled seaside vacation in MR. HULOT'S HOLIDAY, MON ONCLE finds Tati contrasting Hulot's bohemian provincial home life with the modern, contraption-filled concrete and glass home belonging to his sister and her family, the Arpels, where Hulot's nephew, Gerard, is drowning in boredom. When Hulot comes for a visit, the gadgets get the better of him, in a seamless spectacle of electric switches, slamming doors and malfunctioning accoutre ... (more)

Well, this movie was not an exception but it doesn’t mean that I think that it was not enjoyable though. The most intriguing thing was probably the juxtaposition of a vintage version of the French way of life (I mean, it does feel ‘vintage’ now but, when it was released, it might have been actually quite contempor” read more

Mustanaamio7's Movie Diary 2024 (102 movies items)

"15.5. 2024 The American cinema was ruling comedy genre from the '30s to the ´50s and there were only a few challengers, so it can be said that the French cinema desperately needed Jacques Tati. Tati only made six full feature films in his career but they were all original comedies that can't be topped. Hulot is only a small part of the huge world that is filled with fascinating characters and events. When he reacts to the overly strict rules and laws, he accidentally manages to reveal absurdit"

Mustanaamio7's Movie Diary 2022 (30 movies items)

"14.8. 2022 With "Mon oncle" Jacques Tati avoids all the typical cliches related to comedy genre and recreates atmosphere of the silent cinema. There's hardly any dialogue in the film and the whole film is compiled of series of charming and curious moments. Tati was a pretty humble guy because his character often just leaves the screen and lets the side characters to entertain viewers. Hulot usually tries to follow the rules but adapting into any modern system is usually almost impossible task f"

Movies the giraffe watched in 2021: March (34 movies items)

"First viewing - Mar. 13th So apparently Mon Oncle is some great classic, which is why I was curious to see what it was about. And there are some truly fun and funny moments stretched out across its run-time that I enjoyed. But overall it's not my taste. The characters lack interiority and Tati seems content to just shoot these long stretches where nothing of consequence happens. I struggled to maintain my focus on it, and at times I considered turning it off for something else. But by the time "
