“To be honest, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but since it was directed by Stephen Frears and starring Meryl Streep, I was quite eager to check it out. Well, the whole thing really had some potential. Indeed, as displayed with ‘Ed Wood’, if you can make a fascinating movie about the worst director of all time, why not make a movie about the worst singer ever? Unfortunately, I’m afraid I didn’t care much about the approach they have chosen. "Exceptional comedy with Meryl Streep on fine comic form as a woman obsessed with music that she decides to perform for everyone, even though she cannot sing. Hugh Grant is superb as her husband who has to protect her from any upset and Simon Helberg almost steals the whole film as Florence's trusting pianist. Stephen Frears' delightful film has plenty of laughs as well as pathos. A real charmer."

First Viewing It's often funny and heartfelt, with a pair of winning performances from Streep and Grant, but Florence Foster Jenkins is too tonally confused to really succeed wholly.
