It's appropriately intense and full of solid performances, including a very serious role from Matthau. The decisions being made and the ultimate decision brings the most intensity to the movie. It's just kind of tense the whole way through, but builds very nicely. The final moments help make it great. It's strangely controlled yet daring for a 1960s movie."
