"2015 NOMINEE - Colombia - Ciro Guerra"

"This film was very interesting to me, cause part of my work as an artist is influenced by Mesoamerican mythology and iconography. I'm Italian by the way, this is set in Amazonian area so a bit on the South, still the vibe was that. Technically speaking is just a joy for the eyes, rich in visuals and photography, but it also tells 'its' story from a different point of view. It is set on the path of two European scientists at some decades of distance one from the other, but we FEEL more the word"

" 30.1. GIGANTORHYNCHUS - HĂNEN VALINTANSA Amazonilla vaikuttavat valkoiset valloittajat, kÀÀrmejumala ja joen mutkitteleva muoto veivĂ€t meidĂ€t loisten ja matojen maailmaan. Jumalaisen kasvin etsimisestĂ€ kahtena eri aikana kertova elokuva nĂ€yttÀÀ, miten valkoiset jĂ€ttĂ€vĂ€t jĂ€lkensĂ€ viidakon uumenissa elĂ€viin ihmisiin. EnsimmĂ€isenĂ€ paikalle saapunut tutkija haluaa ihan oikeasti löytÀÀ kasvin tieteen nimissĂ€ hyvÀÀ tarkoittaen. HyvĂ€n tarkoittaminen ei kuitenkaan johda siihe"

" Notes: I wasnât disappointed, thatâs for sure. To be honest, I still think the structure was actually rather straightforward though. Indeed, it was pretty much following the standard road-trip formula with the traditional rules of the genre including 2 characters from different backgrounds clashing during their travel. Still, beside this rather standard structure, it was such a fascinating and rather unique look on the Amazon and the people living there. Above all, the thing I probably lo"

“I already saw this movie but, since I have it on DVD and since it was a while back, I thought I might as well check it out again. Well, I have to admit that I didnât remember it in details, I guess itâs not an easy movie to watch (to be fair, it is indeed rather slow). Still, I really loved the damned thing each time I watch it and I think it could be a movie that I could rewatch every decade. To be honest, I still think the structure was actually rather straightforward though. Indeed, it was pretty much following the standard road-trip formula with the traditional rules of the genre including 2 characters from different backgrounds clashing during their travel. However, the whole road-trip approach did bother me even less the 2nd time around though. Furthermore, beside this rather s” read more

"Original Title: 'El abrazo de la serpiente' Directed by: Ciro Guerra Plot: The story of the relationship between Karamakate, an Amazonian shaman and last survivor of his people, and two scientists who work together over the course of 40 years to search the Amazon for a sacred healing plant. Note: The thing I probably loved the most was this character, Karamakate. Basically, you get to see 2 versions of this guy and, both times, this man was just so complex. Indeed, instead of going for the al"

"Dull and confusing. The story around the Amazonian and the two European scientists simply was not interesting enough to hold my interest. Noteworthy for me mainly for the scenery of the Amazon and not much else. I can see why people can praise the film but for me it just isn't that memorable at all. "
“Bella y sincera, la pose queda para las interpretaciones y para algunas lĂneas muy 'self eco conscious' de los indĂgenas. El alemĂĄn pueblerino y el gringo bostoniano resumen dos enfoques con poca diferencia. El olvido juguetĂłn de Karamakate media estupendo entre ambos.” read more
