"First viewing - Aug. 12th Almodóvar is one of a handful of directors I need to watch more films from, so when I spotted this on Starz I wanted to give it a chance. And I'm glad I did. Banderas gives one of his best performances and creates a character that is fully realized. You can tell the story is a personal one, though it's likely enough has been fictionalized to shift the details so the people involved are less easily recognized. "28.8. 2020 An aged film director examines his past while planning his new film project. Almodóvar's film looks gorgeous but it is riddled with cliches and it isn't especially profound in any way. "Pain & Glory" is probably important to its director because the main subject is very personal to him but the film still seems kind of pointless and even repetitive at times."

Not quite the career capper it threatens to be, please don’t quietly into that goodnight, Pedro, Pain and Glory is still one of his typically mesmerizing Escher-like creations. Almodóvar is less in the mood for subversion and more in confessional spirit with his two-track narrative that finds Salvador as both infirmed artist and young boy. An opening voiceover narration, as is his traditio” read more
