Handheld camera technique actually works in showing the chaos of the situation.
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
I have only seen bits and pieces of this movie but enough to know that I don't want to see it - too much hand-held shaky cam "goodness".
The Bourne Supremacy (2004)
~ This was the first time watching a movie gave me a migraine - from the changing focus of shots, shaky cam action in the fight and chase scenes - it's no wonder I gave this movie 2 points.
More suited for the small screen.

Batman Begins (2005)
A number of action sequences were so shaky as to be barely discernible but did not detract from my enjoyment of the overall movie.

Vix's rating:

Transformers (2007)
As fun as it was to see the robots in action, I was disappointed that I couldn't appreciate the effects more because of how jittery the camera was.

Vix's rating:

The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)
Though not as jittery as Supremacy, I still found myself turning away from time to time because the camera movements were too painful on my eyes.

Vix's rating:

Finally saw this and yes there is a lot of shaky camera effects but since I watched it on TV I wasn't bothered much by it. But I'm guessing on the big screen it wouldn't have had a magnifying effect comparable to The Bourne Supremacy.

Vix's rating:

Never Back Down (2008)
The director used pen cameras to give the audience an idea on how it feels to be in the ring.
Iron Man (2008)
The scene where Tony Stark's convoy gets shot at is an example of shaky camera that actually works. It keeps you in the moment, not takes you out of it.

Vix's rating:

Terminator Salvation (2009)
As with Transformers, there were a number of sequences designed to make you feel like you were part of the action. Slightly bothersome.

Vix's rating:

Gamer (2009)
If only the camera followed the person's point of view instead of being jostled all over the place. There's no time to rest your eyes.

Vix's rating:

Battle: Los Angeles (2011)
Much of the movie is scene from the point of view of the Marines but the shaky cam doesn't detract from the action or the special effects.

Vix's rating:

The Hunger Games (2012)
There was a lot of zooming in and out and hand held shakiness from time to time that was distracting.

Vix's rating:

~ They were going the Bourne Supremacy route and the jitters were noticeable even on the small screen. Ugh.

Vix's rating:

Man of Steel (2013)
~ There are many moments in scenes where the edits shift from steady to shaky. My reaction: "Oh no, here's camera operator number 3".

Vix's rating:

The Shaky Camera technique apes Cinéma vérité in order to heighten the reality of a given situation.
However there is a fine line between being a part of a movie's reality and getting a migraine or puking your guts in the cinema.
