The Last Exorcism is yet another entry into the faux-documentary horror sub-genre, an approach to filmmaking that for me has lost every bit of the little charm and intrigue it ever held. The problem with THE LAST EXORCISM, for the majority of its running time, is that it's more interesting than scary. It's easy to get engrossed in the story even if the moments that are meant to be scary aren't milked as effectively as they should be. That was my reaction after this movie ended. 80 minutes of good will that the movie earned was lost with the 5-minute schlocky ending. The Last Exorcism follows Rev. Cotton Marcus, a minister who has come to believe that demonic possession is hokum and that the exorcisms he performs are more a trick for the mind than the actual saving of a soul.
