Excel Saga (1999)
Excel Saga is one of the funniest animes I've ever watched.
Although I do find it to be offensive at time especially the last episode, I find its humor to be very over-the-top and even clever at times with how it makes fun of anime itself.
I highly recommend if you are looking for a funny anime.

Romeo x Juliet is a series that I didn't really have any expectations for when I gone into this series though it started it out kind of slow, I really enjoyed the characters and the drama as I continued to watch the series. I find some of the characters to be very interesting and even fascinating at times with how they see things.
I find this to be a underrated anime.

Death Note (2006)
This is a series that manages to keep me on the edge of my seat more than most action movies and it's mostly consisting of talking and very minimal fight scenes.
This anime is about a mind game between a college student who has a notebook that can kill and a detective who wants to catch him.
The series can be very clever at times and will keep you on the edge of your seat with their various plans and schemes. This anime has gotten me into these mind game type animes and ever since no anime has gotten even close to the tense drama that is Death Note.

Trigun (1998)
This series I've found was hard to get into at first. At first we get a lot of episodic comedy and some drama and action but than the second season kicked in and than I felt like this was one of the most beautiful animes I've ever watched. The way it handles it's drama and it's sad thought provoking moments is just so good. But I felt like the episodic comedy preceding the second season wasn't as memorable.
There is a part of me that wishes that this anime took itself a bit more seriously because if it were to than I think this anime would be my favorite anime of all time.

I haven't watched this anime in a while and I know Brotherhood is supposedly the superior anime but I can't help but be attached to this series. I didn't get to watch this entire anime until a few years after it came out and when I did I couldn't help but make this my favorite anime of all time for a while. It what made me get hooked into anime. Before I had a curiosity in anime since I didn't see a whole lot of anime before this one and when I watched this anime I saw that it was so much more than heroes using powers to defeat evil, I saw that it was complicated and paced in a thoughtful way.
One of the things I really like about this anime is how it conveys things like happiness and sadness in a way that feels natural. Like it's not some big event these moments they are passive and add up to an experience that isn't like a lot of these shonen action animes, it's more like a fantasy slice of life drama at times. And I think that adds a certain realism to the show that most action fantasy animes don't seem to achieve.
I know people say Brotherhood has a more complex and clever story but for me this particular anime series has some things that just does it for me, such as the music which I thought was more relaxed and softer in this series and the drama I felt was done more quietly and moody, and I would say this series has this classic tone. I always liked fantasy but I'm into a certain type of Fantasy like lets say a Disney Fantasy or something like Hayao Miyazaki's movies and I feel this particular series shares a same essence as those films but it's a lot darker than those series and it's also a lot more action heavy of course so this series just set the standard for me when it comes to fantasy animes.
I haven't seen all of Brotherhood yet but the tone and style isn't really doing it for me like the first series did. It's not that Brotherhood is bad I just sort of wish it was done in the same style and tone as the first series.
Although my love for the series has died down and I always thought the ending was kind of disappointing. I will still always look back on this particular anime as a unique experience and a classic.

Ranma ยฝ (1989)
Ranma 1/2 is my favorite comedy anime of all time, it's one of the funniest animes I've watched and it's just a brilliant series.
It does not really follow any linear story unlike most animes, I feel it's more episodic. In fact I would compare it to something like Family Guy and The Simpsons but the humor is a lot cleaner than those two which I think works to this animes favor.
Ranma 1/2 is something very hard to describe why I like it. I like humor but it's not always trying to be funny, I like its action but that's clearly not the focus, I like drama but it's not always trying to take itself seriously. But I've read something online that may describe why I like this series so much, I've read somewhere online that the original author for the manga said that Ranma 1/2 was conceived to be a martial arts manga that connects all aspects of everyday life to martial arts.
And that's sort of what I get from Ranma 1/2, that it's about everyday life in life that's not so normal.

Welcome to the NHK is one of my favorite drama anime.
The characters for me is the strongest point for this anime series. I really like these characters they are so complex and different than any other anime. And sometimes these characters are mean but it adds to the drama which can even be funny at times.
Even though this series is about a guy in a boring life, this series manages to never be boring. It's highly addicting for many different reasons. I highly recommend this to anyone.

Wolf's Rain is something hard for me to describe why I like it. I find the art and music to be very enchanting and beautiful but that's the only thing I'm really sure about this anime.
In fact I'm not really sure if I understand this series at all to this day. But at the same time I love this anime.
Every time I think about this anime, words comes to mind like "Lonely", or "Warmth" and "Nostalgic"
Wolf's Rain just manages to hit some really depressing notes without diving deep into heavy subject matter or controversial content. Wolf's Rain is just a very quiet and beautiful anime that is one the most beautiful animes that I have ever seen in my life.

Princess Tutu (2002)
Princess Tutu is a near masterpiece in my opinion. Sure it doesn't tug at my heart strings nearly as much as Wolf's Rain or Trigun did but I don't always have to feel depressed after I've watched an anime in fact I was amazed by the time I finished watching Princess Tutu.
Princess Tutu is an anime that I do have problems with but it's so good that it almost doesn't matter.
One of these things are it's music which is entirely comprised of classical music which gives Princess Tutu a unique identity as well as makes a lot of it's scenes have either an enchanting or grand epic feel.
Another great thing is it's story characters and setting. All these things make up for a very subversive story. I won't spoil anything but I will say that the story of Princess Tutu becomes almost more than the story itself.
While I do have problems with the story, particularly how it kind of gets slow to get into and there are some episodes that I just found boring, Princess Tutu is just so good that I'm willing to forgive those episodes and make it one my favorite animes of all time.

This anime. This is the anime that I think of whenever someone says anime. This anime right here is what I think an anime is and what it should be.
So what does Madoka do to make me think that this is what sort of represents anime?
Well I don't think it represents anime, I do feel like whenever someone says anime, something like Madoka Magica pops into my head.
When I was young I always imagined what some of the animes I'm missing out are like and Madoka Magica is the closest thing to what I thought anime was like back than. Especially towards the end of the series.
And although I didn't like the third movie and thought it should have ended where the TV series left off, I think this anime series will be my favorite for a long, long time.
I like the characters even though I think all their personalities are kind of one-note, and I like the clever story with how it almost all makes sense at the end, and than at the very end I wasn't really sure what was exactly going on again, but it's okay. This anime I think is better without knowing what gone on exactly. There is a lot of hidden depths to this anime that makes it more mysterious and ambiguous. And I think that's the feeling that I had about some anime I heard about but haven't watched when I was really young. Ambiguous.
This anime has this very bright and colorful tone but yet it's very dark and moody. This sort of creates a moody atmosphere that sets a general mood of gloominess that is warm yet haunting.
This anime will always be my favorite if someone asks what my favorite anime is I will always say Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
