Lunar: Eternal Blue - Sega Mega cd
Until the last time I played this one through Lunar 2 was my second favourite, but once I got more into the world and the story again, I immediately fell in love with it once more. If Laputa-era Hayao Miyazaki made a role playing game, this would pretty much be it. A masterpiece of storytelling, no other game even comes close in this regard.

I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream - PC Games
This game has one of the greatest scripts I have ever seen. It was made by Harlan Ellison himself, and even if the game was bugged as hell, it kinda works, since you're supposed to play against evil AI in a distorted and unfair virtual reality to begin with.
Darth Brutus's rating:

Blade Runner - PC Games
This game not only pays tribute to the original film and the novel, but it kinda adds its own touch into them. The makers were clearly huge fans of the ip, and it really shows.
Darth Brutus's rating:

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - PlayStation
One of the most badass games of all time. Until you get to the halfway where the castle turns upside down, you don't even know how good it is.
Darth Brutus's rating:

Shovel Knight - PC Games
This game combines everything that was good about 8-bit gaming and adds in few ideas of its own. Luckily the ideas were brilliant, and so is the game itself.
Darth Brutus's rating:

Sonic Mania - PC Games
Made by fans for the fans. Mania celebrates everything Sonic used to be before Sega screwed the whole franchise. Possibly the best game in the series.
Darth Brutus's rating:

Castlevania: Rondo of Blood - TurboGrafx CD
This game has one of the best soundtracks of all time. And then there's the actual game, which in itself is one of the best ever. Must for any fan of 16-bit gaming and fans of Castlevania.

Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete - PlayStation
I used to hate this game until recently. I hated some of the changes they made here, like most of the new music, stupid one-liners and the difficulty, which is insane compared to the original. The first boss is legendary in its brutality, it originally killed my interest immediately.
Now that I've had more time to swallow, I like it even more than the original, they changed everything mostly for the better. At best this is even better and smarter than any of the Final Fantasy games. They added so much to the concept it really does feel more complete and fits in perfectly with the sequel.
One can tell they knew exactly how good Eternal Blue was on Sega CD, because they clearly took a lot of fundamental ideas from that masterpiece. I'd say this game and Sega CD's Eternal Blue form a perfect pair, even better than the original.

Snatcher - Sega Mega cd
Before Metal Gear Solid, this was the game Hideo Kojima was known for. Since I'm also a huge fan of cyberpunk genre, you know I love this game more than anything the man has done since.
Darth Brutus's rating:

Xenogears - PlayStation
Way better than Final Fantasy 7. They cut the budget because of that one, so this might feel a bit rushed, but it's still crazy good.
Darth Brutus's rating:

Chrono Trigger - Super famicom and SNES
The second best thing 90's Squaresoft ever did. The design of this game is superb and the plot kills anything Final Fantasy has done in more than two decades.
Darth Brutus's rating:

Lunar: The Silver Star - Sega Mega cd
Lunar made it big with its debut, but compared to the sequel, this is pretty simple and easy.
Darth Brutus's rating:

Shadow of the Colossus - PlayStation 2
This game is amazing. I remember playing it all the time back in my late high school days. The unique experience has tuck with me all these years even if I haven't touched it since for some reason.
Darth Brutus's rating:

Sonic & Knuckles - Sega Genesis and Mega Drive
The second best Sonic game, until Mania was released, this was my favourite.
Darth Brutus's rating:

Gunstar Heroes - Sega Genesis and Mega Drive
One of those kinds of games you won't understand until you have tried it for yourself. This is like a Contra game, but more colorful. The world class action and the animation are so well designed and complex you wouldn't believe the whole thing was released on a 16-bit Sega console back in the early 90's.
Darth Brutus's rating:

Planescape: Torment - PC Games
Another contender for the "best script ever" and "best design ever" awards. Just like any other game from these guys, it was released basically broken and only later modded and patched to its full GLORY.
Darth Brutus's rating:

Super Castlevania IV - Super famicom and SNES
This game fixed all the main issues with the first three Castlevanias, and the result is a near perfect game with few technical slowdowns every now and then.
Darth Brutus's rating:

Tekken 2 - PlayStation
I had forgotten how much fun I used to have with this game. When PS1 was still new, everyone of my friends had theirs modded and this was the hottest shit everyone pirated. I was the only who had a legit copy of the, and even that eventually wore out and broke. That was one hell of a game, I still think it's better than the sequels.
Darth Brutus's rating:

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem - GameCube
Underrated horror gem. This is kinda like a Chtulu the video game, but the story is told in anthology style. They planned a sequel, but it never happened.
Darth Brutus's rating:

Grandia - PlayStation
Little brother of Lunar, recycles many of the same design ideas, but lacks the genius storytelling those games had. The soundtrack is one of the best ever.
Darth Brutus's rating:

Sonic Robo Blast 2 - PC Games
Not an official game, but a Doom mod that turns the game into a much better Sonic the Hedgehog experience than most of the actual Sega ones.
Darth Brutus's rating:

Blazing Dragons - PlayStation
Blazing Dragons is like Shrek, but the style of the humor is closer to Monty Python and A Fish Called Wanda. The voice cast alone consists of some of the greatest actors of the time, the writing is especially clever and full of surprises plus finally a main character that's both funny, clever and very likeable. Sadly, though, this game is also very short.
Darth Brutus's rating:

Policenauts - PlayStation
A spiritual sequel to Snatcher, but this time it's a police thriller in space. The narrative has some rhythm problems and the game goes from extremely boring to extremely hectic, but I don't care. The only technical issue is the shooting parts, where you literally have to hit the target like million times to make any actual damage.
