I'll Be Home for Christmas (1998)
I watched this growing up, so I thought it'd be a walk down memory lane. Pshh. Nope. This is not a "it gets better as you get older" movie.

Switchmas (2012)
This is the definition of a Christmas cliche movie: Kids switching places, a moody teenage daughter with a sketchy boyfriend named Spike, parents too busy for their little boy, a play(complete with auditions montage) to conquer a singer with stage fright, a gang of town bullies(Jack the Jerk), there's even a dog.
I'm honestly not sure if it was a parody or just genuinely that cheesy. I kinda liked it either way.

No...I'm totally not on a Christmas kick...
Ha. This was a little expected and corny, but, once again, I liked it.
Very Groundhog Day-ish, but modern day. I'm not very familiar with the leading actress and and actor, but I thought they did a decent job. Good for Christmas.

Ahhh...I can't tell you how many times I've seen this movie. One of my favorites. It never gets old. Perfect for an icy/snowy day indoors. :)

Syrup (2013)
I don't know why this film was received so badly. I know it was based on a book, so I assume it has something to do with not upholding fan expectations. However, I have to admit that the plot was sloppily strung together. I liked it because it held my interest, but I'm also a marketing geek and obsessed with everything related to the subject. I looked at this as a parody, and that made it watchable and humorous. If taken seriously, it will disappoint.
Lydia's rating:
This wins the award for driest, slowest, most boring movie that I've seen in the year 2013. But my mother liked it, so I endured it. The whole hour and 29 minutes.
Lydia's rating:
Blackfish (2013)
Okay, this was a solid documentary, but (like ALL documentaries) it was extremely slanted. I walked away from it hating Seaworld, but I know that was the point. I have to dig deeper into counter arguments before I decide exactly how I feel about the subject.
That being said, the film was excellent.

A Country Christmas (2013)
Another really, really, REALLY poorly acted made-for-tv Christmas show.
Lydia's rating:
Elf (2003)
This is one of my favorite Christmas movies, tied for first with How the Grinch Stole Christmas with Jim Carrey. It has me laughing every single year, no matter what. :)
Buddy: First we'll make snow angels for a two hours, then we'll go ice skating, then we'll eat a whole roll of Tollhouse Cookiedough as fast as we can, and then we'll snuggle.
Buddy: We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup.
Buddy: This place reminds me of Santa's Workshop! Except it smells like mushrooms and everyone looks like they want to hurt me.
Buddy: What's a Christmas Gram? I want one!
Buddy: SANTA! OH MY GOD! SANTA'S COMING! I KNOW HIM! I KNOW HIM!
Buddy: I thought maybe we could make ginger bread houses, and eat cookie dough, and go ice skating, and maybe even hold hands.

Lovelace (2013)
I read a lot of negative reviews saying that this film did not portray Linda Lovelace very well, and I believe that is where the poor ratings are coming from. But coming from someone that had never heard of Lovelace prior to this movie, and is not well versed in pornography...at all...I liked this movie. It stands well on it's own, although from the research I've done it seems to be more for entertainment than biographic. Amanda Seyfried is wonderful, and I think that she played the role well.

Stand Up Guys (2013)
Gangster movies aren't my forte. That's really all there is to my lower rating.
