One of Woody Allen's most obnoxious and boring films yet; but can't deny the several bouts of clever dialogue.
Stehako's rating:

The Dark Crystal (1982)
Some Henson flare to what I think is his weakest effort of a magnificent career.
Stehako's rating:

Creepshow (1982)
A series of horror shorts that feature some great actors, including Ed Harris dancing.
Stehako's rating:

A classic 80s romp and that is both entertaining and terrible. One I've been curious about most my life. I did technically watch some of it as a kid, but it was also on cable and not the real thing. It doesn't hold up very well, quite a dated version of the boys-behaving-badly subgenre.
Stehako's rating:

My Favorite Year (1982)
Director: Richard Benjamin
His 1st Movie
My 4th movie watched from the director
Peter O'Toole is fully on display and on fire in this mid-career gem. Sadly nobody else is interesting in this movie. Even with it being a one-man show it's certainly overall entertaining enough for a 7/10.
I understand the voice over at the beginning talks about the great year of 1957, but this movie should really be called my favorite week, as that is the timespan of the movie.

The Border (1982)
A lesser effort from Nicholson but entertaining and intriguing all the same, especially looking at border patrol from today's eyes.
Stehako's rating:

Night Shift (1982)
Keaton proves, once again, how fun of a guy he is. On screen, and I can't help but believe he would be off screen, too.
It is nice to see Winkler get out of the Fonzy role, hopefully he finds better roles, because he was kind of a drip in this one.

Sophie's Choice (1982)
Wow, I finally get to see why this is considered one of the best performances in all of film!
Stehako's rating:

Poltergeist (1982)
This might have been my first scary movie. Scared the shit out of my seven-year-old self.
Stehako's rating:

Director: Robert Towne
His 1st movie
My 1st movie watched from the director
I had never heard of this movie, but the description sounded interesting, so I gave it a try and was quite entertained and really confused, the whole time, why this isn't a movie mentioned more often, or why it wasn't popular at any point. It has solid performances, a strong athlete story, and full of compelling relationships. Still, there are enough technical issues to prevent it from being a great movie and the lead character does get kind of annoying by the end.

Stehako's rating:

Great ensemble cast in a film I was born to write, but unfortunately the film was made when I was born.
Stehako's rating:

48 Hrs. (1982)
Possibly the original buddy cop movie... even though they aren't buddies until the end.
Stehako's rating:

The Road Warrior (1981)
Director: George Miller
His 2nd movie
My 6th movie watched from the director
I finally get to see this gem of a movie, it's kind of ridiculous it took me this long! The action, direction, and set pieces were all great. I thought it flowed much better than the first and Gibson was more interesting in this, still surrounded by crazy characters that were amped up. Yet, having seen "Fury Road" back at its release, it's still not as amped up, crazy, and brilliant as that.

Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (1982)

A comedy as clever as 'Zelig' but funnier. In fact, one of the funniest scenes of all time lays upon its reels...
Stehako's rating:

The World According to Garp (1982)
A little film that turns epic, about a very abnormal life that questions gender roles.
Stehako's rating:

The Thing (1982)
One of the best horror films made. A terrifying setting and story.
Stehako's rating:

Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982)
Iconic scenes aplenty in this well-written and horrifying (for parents) look into the adolescent mind.
Stehako's rating:

Tootsie (1982)

Hoffman can do anything, including drag. This film also features Bill Murray in comedic, supporting role.
Stehako's rating:

Blade Runner (1982)

Ford's narration isn't very effective but for its time, this is one of the coolest futuristic films. Plus, one of my favorite quotes of all time comes toward the end: "...all those moments will be lost, in time, like tears in the rain."
Stehako's rating:

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)

The film was unstoppable upon its release and it's still insanely popular, and more importantly, good.

While I didn't see any of these movies until years after they were made, many have become classics. Here are my favorite 50 for the year 1982.
