Django Unchained (2012)
This was an awesome movie. Everything about this movie was great. Jamie Fox is really good as Django and everyone else is good too. Like all of Tarantino's movies the dialogue is great and the action scenes are too. The movie is already an instant classic in my book. This is one you should see in theaters because this is worth every penny.

Life of Pi (2012)
I loved the book the movie is adapted from, so I was surprised to see that the movie is as great as the book. The visuals were amazing, the acting was very good and I just loved how the whole story turned out in movie form.

Dredd (2012)
I was anticipating this movie ever since I heard of it. I really wanted to see it in theatres, but it left before I got the chance to see it. I decided to watch it today since it was playing on the free movie channels. This was much better than the Stallone version. The action was amazing, the effects were mind-blowing and Karl Urban made a very good Judge Dredd. I really can't think of anything I didn't like about this movie. It's too bad this was a flop because this film really deserved a sequel.
moviewatcher122's rating:

Another masterpiece from the year 2012. The characters were very relatable, the dialogue was mind-blowing and the situations were realistic. My favorite scene in the whole movie is also the picture above the quote. Now I'm eager to read the book ASAP.

Indie Game: The Movie (2012)
This was a really fascinating documentary on what goes on with independent video game developers and how long it takes for them to make one game. It was really interesting to see what happened during the progress and even though I knew that the games are already released by now, I still had this feeling that the games won't be finished on time and it's great when this kind of documentary can pull it off. I highly recommend this movie even if you're not a gamer.
moviewatcher122's rating:

The Cabin in the Woods (2011)
Before this film came out I was just expecting it to be the same story that's been done before, but when it got good reception when it came out I decided that I should check it out sometime. This is not the film you expect it to be. This is a different take on the cabin in the woods story. The ideas in the movie are brilliant. The best horror movie in recent years.
moviewatcher122's rating:

The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
I don't know if I would say that it is better than The Dark Knight, but I liked them both equally. I thought that Anne Hathaway did a better job than Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman. All the other actors like Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman did a great job like always. This was a great way to end the series and it was definitely worth the wait.
moviewatcher122's rating:

Flight (2012)
This was a fantastic return to live-action for Robert Zemeckis after he went through his motion-capture animation phase. Not only was the writing in this movie great, but Denzel Washington delivers the best performance I've seen from him. It even tops his performance in Training Day. This was an amazing movie that kept me interested throughout the whole movie.
moviewatcher122's rating:

The Avengers (2012)
I loved this movie and I wasn't even expecting it to be that great. It had lots of action scenes, great special effects and had some funny parts. If I had one complaint it would be that the special effects got a little bright at some times. I think this is probably the best movie of the year. If you're planning on seeing this then this is one you've gotta see in theatres.
moviewatcher122's rating:

Argo (2012)
I decided to watch this to see if it actually deserved to win Best Picture. After seeing this I can say that it definitely deserved to win. The whole movie was gripping, suspensful and had some good humor. Ben Affleck's performance was pretty good and his directing was too. Argo is in the top 10 of best movies of 2012.
moviewatcher122's rating:

Lawless (2012)
This is one of the best movies of this year. It was gritty, disturbing and amazing. Shia LaBeouf delivers the best performance of his career and all the other actors do a great job too. This is the best gangster movie in recent years and was worth every penny.
moviewatcher122's rating:

I found this movie on Netflix not knowing too much about it and I was glad I found out about it. It was well-written and had great performances from everyone. I am also one of those people who thought John Hawkes was snubbed by The Oscars. This was an amazing movie that ended before I knew it.
moviewatcher122's rating:

Chronicle (2012)
First movie I saw in theaters this year and I really enjoyed it. Ever since it started I already was interested. I like how they abuse their powers in clever ways. This is one I would recommend seeing.
moviewatcher122's rating:

The Grey (2012)
This was a great movie. This film is much more than killing wolves. This is an emotional and well-made thriller that is great from start to finish.
moviewatcher122's rating:

I wasn't expecting anything great from this movie, but this was far from what I was expecting. When this movie started I had the feeling that Mel Gibson wrote the dialogue. Now after seeing the writers credits, I now know that he was one of the writers. This movie had great dialogue, awesome action scenes and some good humor. I still think Mel Gibson is a douchebag, but this was a great comeback for him and a great return to the action genre.
moviewatcher122's rating:

Robot & Frank (2012)
The story in this movie was simple, but it was still done very well. The character development was great and I really loved how the robot in this movie was someone in a suit instead of CGI. It made the robot look more realistic than CGI ever could. It does lose a little bit of steam near the end of the movie, but it's still touching enough for me to give it a 9/10.
moviewatcher122's rating:

My experience before the show was a bitch. The path to the theater was blocked so I had to walk and since the room the movie was in was being cleaned the staff made us wait outside in the fucking cold. It was more than worth it. Like all the LOTR movies they're visually impressive and proves that Peter Jackson is the king of blockbusters. It also had some humorous dialogue and when the movie ends it leaves you wanting more. Somehow it doesn't reach the same level of greatness as the LOTR movies did, but it is a great start to the trilogy and hopefully the other two will be better.
moviewatcher122's rating:

ParaNorman (2012)
This was a hilarious movie. For a kids film the humor was very clever and pretty much all the jokes worked. The most amazing thing in this movie was the stop-motion. It is probably the best stop-motion I've ever seen in an animated film. Also as a horror buff I loved the horror references in this movie. This is the best animated film of last year.
moviewatcher122's rating:

Frankenweenie (2012)
My sister wanted to see this and because I wanted to see it as well, I decided to come with her. This was an awesome movie. It was funny, dark and entertaining. From the middle to the end of the movie is when Tim Burton unleashes his imagination. The 3D was good although I'm not sure if it was worth the extra money. Frankenweenie will appeal to both kids and adults and is definitely worth seeing.
moviewatcher122's rating:

Prometheus (2012)
I enjoyed this one. This one was over-hyped, so I wasn't expecting too much from it. I ended up enjoying it. I wouldn't say it was perfect, but it is worth watching. I saw this in 3D because that was the only option they had at the theater and since I heard good things about the 3D I thought that I might as well see it in 3D. I thought the 3D was worth it.
moviewatcher122's rating:

Ted (2012)
This is probably the funniest movie of 2012 so far. It delivered so many laughs and I was pretty much laughing the whole time. I did find the middle of the movie a bit cliche
because I knew that Lori was going to break up with John, but the movie was so funny that I didn't even care. This was a great film debut for Seth McFarlane. Also if you're a Family Guy fan then you will notice a couple of references to the show.

I decided to watch a documentary just because I hadn't watched one in a while. I really liked this one. It showed how there's actually many generous people in the world, it was also funny at times and it just makes you feel good. There were a couple problems I had with this, but overall it's a documentary worth checking out.
moviewatcher122's rating:

The Hunger Games (2012)
I really enjoyed this one. The beginning was good, but not great. The middle and the ending was when it started to get better. I actually saw parents take their kids to this movie which I can't believe they did because it's not for kids. I guess they just don't care.
moviewatcher122's rating:

Safety Not Guaranteed (2012)
Ever since I saw the trailer for this, I was very interested in this movie. Now that this was recommended for the Netflix Instant Project, it encouraged me to finally watch it. The story was good, so was the writing and it also had some funny dialogue. It didn't cross the line of greatness for me, but it almost did. I still thought it was a good movie and I'm glad I finally saw it.
moviewatcher122's rating:

Bernie (2011)
This was a pretty good movie. It was more of a drama than a comedy though. This was a different role for Jack Black which I liked. I pretty much felt what his character felt and I was amazed when I found out that this was a true story. One problem I had with this movie was Matthew McConaughey's character. He just wasn't that great and I feel like that they could've done the movie without him, but I guess that's just me.
moviewatcher122's rating:

After watching Little Miss Sunshine last year, I wondered what the director's next project would be. When I found this movie on IMDB I added it on Listal right away. When the trailer came out it made me even more excited for the movie. This movie lived up to my expectations. It was funny, had a good premise and is well-written. I liked how the movie showed the main character's passion for writing. Sure the movie ends happy, but I can't say it's a typical happy ending. If you liked Little Miss Sunshine then you might like this.

Death of a Superhero (2012)
I'm glad this was recommended for the Netflix Instant Project because I hadn't even heard of this movie before. This movie contains probably the best performance from Andy Serkis. (I don't count Gollum because he's half CGI.) The animation in the movie was also cool and shows how active the main character's imagination is. I'm kind of surprised that not even one thousand people have rated this on IMDB. This movie needs to be seen by more people.
moviewatcher122's rating:

Much better than the first one. This had good special effects, good action sequences and some funny lines. What I like is that this doesn't take it's self too seriously. There are also a few actors who make a return to the big screen like Van Damme, Chuck Norris and Arnold Schwarzenegger. (His cameo in the first movie doesn't count.) The actors aren't afraid to make poke fun at themselves. The dialogue is an improvement over the first one. It still isn't great, but cheesy in a good way. If you're planning on seeing the first movie before this one, I would just reccomend seeing this one since that isn't half the fun as this movie is. It's not going to win any Oscars, but it's good fun and I think it's worth the ticket price.
moviewatcher122's rating:

This was worth the praise. It has that Wes Anderson feel and all the actors have good performances.
moviewatcher122's rating:

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
This was better than I was expecting it to be. I was skeptical about this movie when I first heard of it because back then I didn't think a remake was necessary, but then I realized that I was never a big fan of the original. I actually liked it a bit more than the original. It was a darker take on Spider-Man's origin which I liked. I thought that Martin Sheen did a good job as Uncle Ben and was also funny. There were a couple things I did see coming like Uncle Ben's death, but since I saw the original there really wasn't anything I could do about it. Overall, it was an enjoyable film that is better than I expected it to be.

Side by Side (2012)
If you love cinema, then you owe it to yourself to see this documentary. It was really interesting to see how digital replaced film and to see how digital filmmaking started out.
moviewatcher122's rating:

The Man with the Iron Fists (2012)
Very entertaining homage to martial arts movies. The fight scenes are cool, has lots of gore and Russell Crowe is good as always. Not an amazing film, but it's fun.
moviewatcher122's rating:

Antiviral (2012)
This was a very good debut for Brandon Cronenberg. It had some interesting ideas and it was just a very interesting movie. It did drag on a bit during the second half, but it still had some interesting parts to keep my rating. I am interested to see what Brandon Cronenberg will be directing next.
moviewatcher122's rating:

This was an entertaining movie. It had interesting dialogue for a foreign movie and it was exciting. It's nothing revolutionary, but I had fun watching it.
moviewatcher122's rating:

The Raven (2012)
I can understand why this movie got negative reviews from some people. The dark tone and gore in this movie will turn some people off, but I thought that suited the time period of this movie very well. John Cusack also did a great job as Edgar Allen Poe and I'm glad they picked him for the role instead of someone obvious like Johnny Depp. I'm glad I finally saw this movie after wanting to see it for a couple years.
moviewatcher122's rating:

The Bourne Legacy (2012)
This was actually good. I didn't watch all the Bourne movies, but I didn't think you had to watch them to understand this one. I was pretty much right. I can't say if this is the weakest or not because I haven't seen all of them, but I liked it for what it is and I enjoyed watching this.
moviewatcher122's rating:

After the last Harry Potter came out I wasn't sure if Daniel Radcliffe would be successful after the series ended. Well, I was wrong since this was a box office hit. This movie proves that he does a good job with
non Harry Potter roles. Not sure if I would consider this film a modern horror classic, but its definitely one of the better ones in recent years.

21 Jump Street (2012)
I was skeptical about this movie before it came out. I never had seen the show, but I thought that it didn't make sense to make a TV show that was originally a drama into an R rated comedy. When I heard lots of positive feedback about this movie I decided to check it out sometime. It was good as everyone said it was. It had good humor and I liked how self-aware the movie was. I also thought that Channing Tatum actually did a good job in this one which kind of surprised me because the other movies I've seen him in I don't ever remember if he did a good job or not.
moviewatcher122's rating:

The Dictator (2012)
I really liked this one. I was a bit worried that the funniest parts were already in the trailer, but I didn't even need to worry at all. It's definitely not as good as Borat, but it was still funny.
moviewatcher122's rating:

I'm not the biggest fan of political movies, but this was pretty funny. Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis do the most outrageous stuff to win the election. The Campaign is a funny, sometimes hilarious movie.
moviewatcher122's rating:

The Master (2012)
This is not my favorite PT Anderson movie, but it is still a very solid film. It had amazing acting and very good character development, but the story isn't anything amazing in my opinion.
moviewatcher122's rating:

Sleepwalk with Me (2013)
This was a movie that was on the Netflix Instant Project and if it wasn't for that then I wouldn't have watched or even heard of this. This was a funny and very interesting movie on this guys life. A problem I had was that Backstreet Boys song that played in the movie. Couldn't they have chose a better song? I didn't fall in love with this movie like some people did, but it was a good movie that I'm glad I watched.
moviewatcher122's rating:

Jeff, Who Lives at Home (2012)
This was a good movie. It was more of a drama than a comedy, but that's what I was expecting it to be. One problem I had was Judy Greer's acting. Her performance wasn't convincing at all. At least she's not in the movie that much.
moviewatcher122's rating:

The Five-Year Engagement (2012)
Although this movie is longer than it needs to be, this is a funny and entertaining film. It is a breath of fresh air to see a romantic comedy that is different from the others.
moviewatcher122's rating:

This Must Be the Place (2011)
This was good, but I felt like it didn't completely live up to it's potential. The trailers made it look awesome, but it is one of those cases where the trailers are better than the movie. The soundtrack of the movie was pretty good though.
moviewatcher122's rating:

That's My Boy (2012)
I was originally wanting to see this when it came out, but when I saw that it got negative feedback I wasn't sure if I wanted to see it in theaters. When I saw that it was showing at a less-mainstream theater I decided to give it a chance. It is much better than the ratings say. I liked seeing Adam Sandler in something different instead of his usual dumb comedies. It hasn't been doing well at the box office, so I don't think we'll be seeing more R-rated Adam Sandler comedies. This was a funny movie and Vanilla Ice actually wasn't bad in this movie which is surprising.
moviewatcher122's rating:

American Reunion (2012)
I wasn't originally planning on seeing this, but when I heard people say it was the best in the series I decided that I should rent it sometime. I was not a big fan of the first one and the second one wasn't any good. I haven't watch the third one, but I doubt I'll even watch that one unless I don't have anything better to do. (That's why I watched the second one.) After watching this I can easily say that this is the best in the series. It was funny, entertaining and pays a bit of homage to the original movie. The guys who directed this also directed the Harold and Kumar sequel which I wasn't a big fan of either and they managed to make a film with more funny jokes that unfunny ones. I'll admit that a few parts were predictable, but it was entertaining and fun.
moviewatcher122's rating:

Project X (2012)
This was actually better than I thought it would be. This was a different idea for a found footage movie and it was done pretty well. This isn't anything memorable, but nowhere near as bad as some people made it out to be.
moviewatcher122's rating:

Celeste and Jesse Forever (2012)
This was a good movie and it was somewhat different from your typical romantic-comedy, but it's not the best movie of it's kind.
moviewatcher122's rating:

Safe (2012)
This is a typical Jason Statham movie, but it's still entertaining and it's worth watching if you're a fan of his movies.
